A really good place to be
This was my home-away-from-home for 4+ months. The service is really good. The staffs are nice and friendly and very helpful. The rooms are really clean and nice and comfortable. The kitchen, I love. I totally recommend this place for anybody.
Unique Quality: It has a pool. A gym (though small). Laundry room just downstairs. Grab-away breakfast in the morning. Biscuits in the evening. Free flow of coffee, tea and chocolate. Ample parking for car. The light rail station is just a few minutes walk away. Cinemas are also a few minutes walk away. You can have your mails posted by the staffs.
The best quality is that it is by the Great Mall. Need I say more on this?

Self-catering hotel with nearby mall
We have taken to staying at the Towneplace Suites in Milpitas when we visit San Jose. We used to stay at the Marriot (next door) but that gets expensive. The Towneplace suites have some self-catering facilities (fridge, microwave, cooker) which means you can eat what and when you like. There is a mall opposite which is mainly outlets but does have some food stores. You can also eat in the mall - there is a food court and some restaurants. Not the best food ever but inexpensive. Plus, there is a Coldstones ice cream parlour.
Unique Quality: The mall opposite has a Coldstone ice cream parlour. At Coldstones you select ice cream and other ingredients and they mix the ice cream on a cold stone for you. It is totally delicious. You can live on this, but you would get fat. Worth staying here just to try this.
For a nicer surrounding, drive to Sunnyvale where (on el Camino Real, next to the crazy golf) is another Coldstone but this one has a nice area outisde where you can sit by a funny fountain in the sun to eat the ice cream.
