Best Western
by iandsmith
Why this isn't listed as a Best Western property is a mystery to me. Perhaps they've only recently taken over or such.
I liked the place. Got a room at a reasonable price that was very spacious and well appointed. It was also clean and we both loved the beds for their comfort and spaciousness.
Staff were helpful and friendly though you may have to wait a little at reception as it's a fairly large place.
You can get parking under cover which is something you might like to consider since it's so close to the ocean and salt spray can be a problem.
Have no hesitation in recommending it.
Unique Quality: When it says on the beach, they literally mean ON THE BEACH. It's so on the beach that when you take one step out of the grounds you are stepping in sand.
Thus the location is a big plus. Looking over the beach will cost you however; rooms facing the water cost 50% more than rooms on the rear where we stayed.

Fantastic sunset
by SailorRoar
Right on the beach, with a top floor restaurant where you can enjoy the sunset while having dinner. The location is great, but the hotel could use some modernizing. But don't missunderstand, it is not old and worn, just a bit out of fashion.
Unique Quality: Beachside location

A Great Place for Families!
by orcoastgirl
We have stayed here many, many times over the years with our 3 children who are now grown. This is an excellent choice for families, located right on the beach. The rooms are well appointed and there is a very nice pool area with a jacuzzi on-site.
There is also a restaurant where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner. The lobby/lounging areas are gorgeous with a fireplace and a wall of windows where you can view the ocean and crashing waves.
The staff is very friendly and it is just a short 5 minute drive to downtown Monterey.
Unique Quality: Oceanfront location, very nice pool area with a jacuzzi, friendly staff. Try to book an oceanview room if possible.
Directions: Oceanfront 5 minutes from Monterey

A Complete Resort Hotel On the Beach
by birchy99
The Beach Hotel was the host hotel for the 2002 Bearded Collie Specialty. Dogs were accepted in one wing for a small service charge and were allowed in the lobby area and of course, on the beach. The perfect place for a gathering of canines and their people.
The hotel features 196 rooms with miles of beach access. There is bar and large lobby sitting area, restaurant upstairs and ballroom plus a coffee, espresso bar for early risers. The staff was friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome.
Unique Quality: Located at the north end of the Monterey urban complex it sits on the edge of the former Fort Ord military base, now closed. But this location gives the hotel sort of an isolated feeling as you can look to the north and see nothing but ocean dunes and beach.
The banquet facilities accomodated our group very nicely and the dogs were made to feel welcome. I'm sure that the casual traveler upon checking in would have been a bit stunned to see three hundred Beardies bouncing around on the beach. Of course we dog owners made sure to keep the area clean and quiet for others.

Best place to stay in Monterey!!! Kid friendly!!!
by crawfords
We stay there all the time!!! Only place in Monterey area we stay anymore. If you have kids, you cant beat this place. Beach right outside your door, view of Monterey Peninsula that cant compare, especially at night, And a McDonalds playland within walking distance. Not to mention a great resturant with the best view in the world, live music on the weekends in a comfortable lounge with the same unbeatable view. Adults, families, couples, newlyweds, there is no better place on Monterey Bay!!!!
Unique Quality: Just look at my description of our stays. Too many qualities to mention. Not to mention the staff!!! Special thanks to the managers.

Great views
by EnglishEd
Excellent location within easy walking distance of the aquarium and cannery row.
My room was on the ocean side and I could hear the waves but it wasn't loud enough to loose any sleep. I actually found it relaxing.
Room was a typical size for this value hotel and was clean.
Unique Quality: Have a beer while sitting in the hotel restaurant watching the dolphins.

Monterey Magic by Caroline
by Carrie-Ellen
We have just spent a wonderful last night of our holiday here overlooking the ocean and listening to the waves break on the shore. This is a great place to stay for a romantic break. You can watch dolphins, sea lions and pelicans from the cocktail bar, eat beautifully cooked and presented seafood in the restaurant and dance to the smoochy tunes of Dino and David afterwards. If you were feeling energetic Fisherman's Wharf is a three mile walk along the sand.

Bw The Beach Resort
by paradisedreamer
This is the only resort in Monterey located directly on the beautiful wide sandy beach here. The rooms are nicely decorated and the view is spectacular. You can sit and have a drink in the lobby area which has floor to ceiling windows so you get full advantage of the lovely views across the bay.
Unique Quality: If you leave the windows open you can here the waves while you lie in bed, always a good thing for a lover of the sea!
I highly recommend staying here for the perfect location as well as the reasonable prices.

Best Western Monterey Beach...
by MartinR
Best Western Monterey Beach Resort
$132 we paid for sea view in February. Cheaper on the land side.
Unique Quality: The only hotel right on the beach. Sea view rooms meant you couldn't sleep for the sound of Pacific breakers crashing on the beach all night. Saw two sea otters float past on the sea outside the room.

Monterey Hotels at Laguna Grande/Del Monte/Hwy 1
by Ewingjr98
Embassy Suites Monterey Bay-Seaside - This is the largest and nicest of the existing hotels on the Monterey/Seaside line near the beach. 225 rooms on 12 floors with a view over Roberts Lake to the Bay. Includes conference facilities, indoor pool, and on-site restaurants. Rates from $150-233 a night in the off season and some summer rates go as high as $300 to $460 on weekends.
Best Western Beach Resort Monterey - This is the only Monterey hotel directly on the nice, sandy Del Monte Beach.
La Quinta Inn Monterey - The newest of the hotels, it has just 49 rooms on three floors overlooking Roberts Lake. $165-185 in the off season and $180-$200 in the summer.
Holiday Inn Express at Monterey Bay - This 143-room, is one of the older hotels in this hotel cluster, and it has some of the cheapest rates at $120-150 a night in the off season and $200-$230 in the summer.
New Hotels:
Plans were announced in summer 2007 for two new hotels in the same area. A group led by former MLB player and Monterey resident Reggie Jackson is building a hotel known as the Amador 44 project. Located across the street from the Embassy Suites, it will have 252 rooms and a conference center. A smaller family hotel is now under discussion for the site next to the Holiday Inn Express. This area is practical for those wanting beach and trail access, nice hotels, a cheaper rate, and easy Highway 1 access, but no easy walking access to downtown or Cannery Row. Great for bikers or runners who will enjoy the trail that runs past each of these hotels. This area has a few small, local restaurants plus a Chili's, Roberts Lake Park and Laguna Grand Park, and is walking distance to Seaside City Hall.
