More about Colton Inn

Would definitely stay here again!

by TripAdvisor Member MilesToGo

We stayed at the Colton Inn in September 2005. Our room was very large with 2 queen beds, a dining table with 2 chair, a fridge, a microwave and a good size bathroom. The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. The included breakfast is located in the reception area, but there was a wide selection of different things. The location was good and not noisy. The decor was a little dated, but so what...the room was spotless.

What a find!

by TripAdvisor Member BirdingIsFun

We booked three rooms at the Colton Inn over President's Holday, largely because of reviews on tripadvisor. What a find! The inn is off the beaten path, about 7 blocks up from Fisherman's Wharf on surprisingly peaceful Pacific. It's an older motel, but the rooms are large, clean, comfortable, and very quiet. Our request for room type and location, which we'd listed on our expedia reservation, were honored completely. The office staff is generous and accommodating. They have a much better continental breakfast than you'd find at the chains - fruit and nut breads, muffins, bagels, cereal, juice, really good coffee, fruit...and tasty cookies in the afternoon. My only complaint was that the shower in my room had low water pressure and kept changing temperature - it's an older motel with older plumbing - but this was not a problem in either of the other rooms. We all enjoyed our stay at the Colton and will definitely stay here again.

Great Hotel

On February 4th, we stayed at the Colton Inn in Monterey and were greatly surprised at how wonderful it is. This is a small inn or motel, but furnished like the big hotels in Monterey or Carmel. Our room, which had a large sitting area and a Ben Franklin stove, overlooked a beautiful park with blooming trees. It was quiet and very nicely appointed. Best of all, it is within walking distance of the old Monterey tourist sites and an easy walk down to the water. We could always go downstairs to the office where they have treats -- you have to like a place that has good cookies available at all hours. Good price for the room, especially considering all that we got. Plus, folks were acutally pleasant in the office, knew the area and seemed happy to have a guest walk in their front door.

Just right

by TripAdvisor Member Kittygal

I booked this place after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and was not disappoionted. As much as I like staying at B and B's, sometimes for business, it is just not convenient to do so. This was one of those times.

This inn/motel is centrally located just off the center of Old Monterey. Plenty of free parking, cookies and hot drinks during the day and evening, rental videos avilable. I had a room with a fireplace, which I used, as the chilly rains had come. Pleasant decor with Monterey area accent artwork, a comfy sofa and a decent bed---all things I wanted. Breakfast included cereal, juice, fruit, bagles, pastries and hot drinks that you took back and enjoyed in your room. (I did over the morning news, which was great as it was election day!) My housekeeper took such care to ensure that the towels were folded perfectly, with a shell accent to boot---and everything was very clean.

I was able to walk to Old Town and Fisherman's Wharf, and felt completely safe doing so. The public library was next door---useful for checking email, and the friednly staff there can reserve a time for you in advance. Historic Colton Hall, site of the first California Constitutional Convention, is just a half block away, right next to City Hall.

The staff is friendly and helpful. I will return next time I am in town!

Charming with nice service

by TripAdvisor Member midas

We checked in pretty late at night, the lobby closes at night and so we called ahead and let them know that we would be arriving a bit late.
The person at the reception was waiting for us and made us feel very welcome even at the late hour.
The reception was well stocked with coffee and cookies at night, and the breakfast was simply marvellous- (the chocolate sliced cake was a slice of heaven- what a way to start your day)!!
They also offered movie videos that you could watch in your room.
Our room was nice, well-decorated and clean, it had a rear view but we didn't encounter any noise problems. The microwave and fridge in the room were added conveniences.
We walked towards the fisherman's wharf at night, it was almost 9:30 and most of the restaurants were closed, but the streets were well lit and safe.
Only one word of caution friends, the place is a bit difficult to find, we drove by twice, before we located the place by serially counting the house numbers on the road.
Also call ahead and ask the inn for the correct exit off the freeway, we tried to follow yahoo maps' directions and ended up totally lost!

We like this place

by TripAdvisor Member Cali203

We like this place - the office staff were extremely nice, they had cookies and coffee (or tea, or hot cocoa, etc) at night and the breakfast was good, too.

If you are sensitive to noise ask for a room away from the street and parking. Our room was over the covered parking and we experienced some noise. The room was nice, nothing amazing, but clean.

Nice Place, Friendly People

We were here only one night over Christmas holidays, but we enjoyed our stay. The rooms are pretty big and had a nice frig and table. The only minor complaint I have was the toilet kept sticking when flushed. All in all, I would stay there again.

Loved the Colton

by TripAdvisor Member RichardOKato

A little gem of a hotel in Monterey is the Colton Hotel. Tucked away in the central part of town, this oasis is loaded with creature comforts at a reasonable price for the weary traveler. For starters, the staff was friendly and seemed to look out for the guests' comfort.

The complimentary continental breakfast has a variety of food and lots of it. There are a number of fresh fruits, dry cereals, boiled egg on weekend, bagels, coffee and juices.

The room was very spacious and comfortable with a microwave, a small refrigerator, and a fireplace! The towels were "April fresh" too. The hotel also offers several VHS titles that you can check out free and view in your in-room VHS player. A free high-speed internet access was not quite up and running while I was there. You can also get a free daily newspaper at the front desk.

The vending machines boast a wide selection of canned beverages for $1 and an assortment of snacks including my fave--three types of popcorn.

My room faced the street which sometimes received some street traffic noise early in the morning. But aside from that small glitch, the tons of amenities was well worth the stay. I would definitely seek out this place again.

We stayed in the room with an attached Jacuzzi at a cost of $175 per night (with AAA discount).

Positives
To have a full size Jacuzzi attached to an outside patio was great
Staff - was the great and made the stay
Great Continental Breakfast

Negatives
Location - (about a 1/2 mile to the fisherman's pier/water and 2 miles from Cannery Row) We had bicycles which made it easier to get places
Room Decor - Dated
