Good For Families
Very high priced
We booked two nights when the fair was going on and it was very noisy. The car auction was also the same weekend and that did not help the price,it was very high $ 199. The internet signal was very low. The rooms were big, but run down and could be cleaned better. we had a fridge and micro wave. The owner was not very friendly and the breakfast is a cup of coffee.
The EconoLodge (Monterey Fairgrounds) gives you a good deal for you money. The rooms are a little run down but they are clean and large. It would be possible to bring in an air mattress or two to fit in extra people. All rooms also have a small kitchen and fridge.
There is a pool and hot tub which is open year round which is a plus as not all hotels in Monterey have one. I stay here every time I come to Monterey to go scuba diving. It is nice after going scuba diving to soak in the hot tub.
Unique Quality: All rooms also have a small kitchen and fridge.
Econo Lodge Monterey Fairground - Fremont Street
Econo Lodge is the lowest-priced name brand hotel in the Monterey area. Their list price is around $59 on week nights, but if you reserve on their website and select "Internet Users Rate" the price is only $49! On weekends the price goes up to around $100-120 per night, but if you stay there during the previous week and into the weekend and get the internet rate, the rates are only around $80 instead!
The hotel is definitely nothing fancy and not in the historic area of town. The only things in the immediate area are the Monterey Fairgrounds and a bunch of other budget hotels like the Travelodge. This is a busy area only about 100 yards from the entrance ramp to Hwy 1 and under the flight path for the Monterey airport, just 1/2 mile from the business end of the runway. There are a few restaurants within walking distance including a Chinese buffet, a BBQ joint, and a classy place called Point Joe's. The Monterey coastal running and other beach attractions are also a little over a half mile away.
Free wireless in the rooms, but no power outlets to plug in your laptop, so you end up lying on the bathroom floor to use internet as that is the only free electric outlet in the room. It also seems there is no air conditioning here either--in a quiet neighborhood this is OK, but under the flight path and a tenth of a mile from the freeway makes this place a little noisy to leave the window open. Furthermore, no fan in the bathroom means even if you crack the window, the smoke alarm in the bedroom will probably still got off. Parking is adequate and there is a pool and free continental breakfast.
I stayed here again about a week later, and my second room (123) was much nicer than the first. It was larger with a refrigerator, microwave, and a view of the pool and the occasional sunset...best of all, the smoke alarm didn't go off when I showered!
