worst place ever

Booked a trip for our annaversary. Room 711 I called to confirm before we left. Arrived four hours later only to find out they gave our room away. They said we did not book a room. They were so rude to us. We left and stayed at Dolphin Bay much nicer staff. Much nicer place. The next day I called to talk to the manager but he wouldn't listen to any thing I had to say. When we got home from our excellant trip to Dolphin Bay I found out They charged my credit card for the room we did not stay in. How bad is that.Do your self a favor don't book at this place.Your nightmares will only begin. I will never recommend this place to any of my family or friends.

Not worth the money...

After reading all of the reviews, I thought to myself, this must be a
great place because 90% of them were very postitive. I guess I'm
spoiled because my own bedroom looks like a five star hotel suite than
the one we stayed in.
I paid 109.00 a night (not including all of the other little cost) My husband and I stayed three nights..Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for our anniversary. When we arrived we were about two hours early. The people at the front desk were very friendly. I thought it was cute having a golf cart to drive. However it was very cold and it was not the best thing to have to drive to your room at night, or early in the morning. When we arrived to are room (dunes deluxe) I was a little dissapointed that it looked like any other hotel room but with fancy crown molding. I must say though, I was please that we could see the ocean from are room and that was a plus. I had to call the front desk because the shutters to the patio doors were stuck and were off the track. They came within 5 miniutes and again were very nice. Later that evening after we return from down town, we came back to find ants on the wet bar. Again we called for service and they came and cleaned them up. One hour later they came back again (the ants and the staff). After the ant situation was over we climbed into bed and it was the most comfortable bed. There was two holes in the sheets wich made me sigh. The next night we had neighbors. They were very loud and the rooms are so close. The golf carts are loud too. When they are in reverse it makes a buzzing sound. So when the neighbors left in the morning, we were very aware.

Everytime we left and came back the room was very tidy. Except the part of the bath room that housed the comode. There was a piece of tissue that we left on the floor to see if they cleaned that part of the bathroom and it stayed there the whole time we did.

On the last night we deceided to order room service at AJ Spurs. The reviews were outstanding. We knew it was going to be expensive but everyone said they give you so much food and service is great. Well we order the Lobster, the mushrooms and a steak. Are food arrived in about 15 miniutes and the entrees were brought in a plastic bin. Plastic server plates with clear plastic domes to keep them hot. He set them on the table and said "enjoy". oh my gosh! I guess I expected a roll in table and silver domes to be covering our food and be presented to us in a fancy manner. The Lobster was small and the rest of the food was okay. They were not huge portions. I have had better meals at our local steak house. Aj spurs was not worth the money. We ate and then called the staff to inquire as to who will come and pick up are finished food. They told us just to put everything in the plasic bin and leave it out side the door. (oh thats fancy) I think that Marina Dunes Resort was nice but not worth the money. I would say that a price range of $65.00 a night would be more like it. I think that you should save your money and try another hotel. There is other hotels in Monterey that cost the same and even less and are just as good.

Mixed Feelings

I think, as a so-called luxury hotel, Marina Dunes needs to be much more attentive to the little things. The location is great, the rooms are beautiful and very romantic, but the romance quickly disappears if the sheets are rough and stiff and smell like bleach, which was the case our first night there. I requested the sheets be changed, and the next day they were fine, but the towels were not. Besides being scratchy and not fluffy at ALL, someone had obviously vomited on one set of them a couple of washings ago, and the smell had never quite come out. It was absolutely disgusting. I dried my face with one and the smell just clung to my nose.

Also, the gas fireplace is romantic, but since it's the sole source of heat in the room, it turns off and on and off and on every five minutes. (sounds like this: tsk, er, tsk, poof.) This fireplace kept me awake for hours. In addition, the thermostat was set incorrectly. It was always either too cold or too hot in the room.

Make sure you add $15 per night to your hotel fee, in addition to taxes. This is the Dunes conservation fee. Going in the winter with the off-season rate, I thought I was getting a great deal on a luxury hotel in booking this room. Now I think I spent way too much money for a snooty place that keeps its 4-star rating only by its location and facade.
