Cold water and waves
by Pavlik_NL
Because the Northern Pacific current runs along the coastline, the seawater here is pretty cool. This means however also that it is rich in oxygene and so holds an enormous treasure in life. Fields of seagrass float just off the coast, which form the habitat of the o-so-funny sea-otter. Only at places where water runs more freely the waves rise to a level that makes surfing possible. But still ... the water is cold (brrrr).

It is lovely to stroll along here, or sit and people watch, which I love to do.
There are also boat tours which depart from here. There is apparently a paddlewheeler which makes harbour tours and plays dixieland jazz!
There are also fishing trips and boat tours which take you further afield to look for sea lions and seals.
Morro Bay - the town and the harbor
by Ewingjr98
In it heyday, Morro Bay was a big abalone fishing area; abalone are tough to find today, but halibut, sole, rockfish, albacore, and others are commercial and sport fished. Oysters are farmed artificially in the shallow back bay.
The natural bay extends some four miles from Morro Rock to the south. The harbor was man made by placing fill between Morro Rock and the beach and blocking off the northern opening to the bay.
The huge power plant that towers over Morro Bay was built in the 1950s, and it has three 450 foot-tall towers. There are plans in the works for this power plant to be replaced with a modern plant, swapping out the tall stacks with much shorted 145-foot tall towers.

You can purchase fish to throw to the seals and on the whole they seem to enjoy themselves, and to show off to everyone :).
There is also on display tanks containing tropical fish and other exotic fish.
It is much more than a rock

"Another cool coastal town in California"
Morro Bay is situated up on the Central Coast of California, North of San Luis Obispo and South of Cambria and Hearst castle. All in a few miles of each other so it is feasible to visit these areas in one or two days depending on what you plan on doing.
