Surfing is better down South.
by Pavlik_NL
Surfing is better in the Los Angeles-region as here the waves are not reaching so high (seaweet-fields) and the water is positioned straight into the cold current from the North. Still, some obviusly hot guys show their abilities with the help of a swimmingsuite.
BLUE HERON ROOKERY
by travelgourmet
One of the things that draw people to Morro Bay is the Blue Heron Rookery. Located within the Morro Bay State Park, the setting is a forest of eucalyptus trees that have aromatic leaves filling the air with a soothing scent.
Looking high into the branches, you can see the nests of the blue heron and many of them are flying above as to say, "hey, stay away". Many other species of birds reside in this grove of trees that is right next to the bay.
Beaches and Parks of the Morro Bay area
by Ewingjr98
Morro Rock State Preserve - The rock itself is protected as a nesting area for various birds including the peregrine falcon. Access to the base of the rock is permitted.
Morro Strand State Beach - on the bay, picnic areas, fishing, kite flying. Many people consider this beach just north of Morro Rock the most best beach around. Parking is limited and tourists are scarce, especially during the off season.
Morro Dunes Natural Reserve is a four mile long barrier of dunes that is off-limits as a protected area for snowy plover nesting.
Morro Bay State Park is located on the bay rather than the ocean. This park offers camping, hiking, golf, a museum, a restaurant, and it has a small marina with sailboats. Here you can rent kayaks and canoes as well.
Montana del Oro State Park, on the chopping block to be temporarily closed due to the state budget crisis. It has some 800 acres of beach, dunes, and chaparral, and it offers visitors a camp ground and hiking trails.
Morro Bay stay cool while wine tasting.

"Wine Tasting in Summer"
We went for three nights/four days and used Morro Bay as our home base. Staying on the coast was the right decision given the heat inland (105 Fahrenheit) for July. Paso Robles was beautiful and the Hearst Castle was well worth the time.
A Rock by the Bay

Morro Bay is a small fishing village about 7 miles west of San Luis Obispo. It's mostly recognized by Morro Rock, a local landmark that arises from the tip of Morro Bay. Here you can enjoy seafood, bird watching and some water activities such as kayaking. I found it touristy and a little over-rated though.
