Warm Atmosphere at the Blackbird

by A TripAdvisor Member

Just walking up to the Blackbird Inn was a treat for the eyes. It's a California Craftsman style two-story house with ornate stained glass front doors and mohogany woodwork and hardwood floors throughout. There are only six or so rooms, so you feel like you are at home, unlike busy hotels. The breakfast is delicious and plentiful and there is also plenty of fruit and cheese to enjoy with your evening wine. One night we didn't even go out for dinner! There is also delicious homemade cookies in a jar whenever you'd like to munch. The staff is very efficient, helpful and friendly! I was very impressed with there professionalism and thoughfullness. Our room was very cozy yet roomy and the stuffed bears provide another homey touch. The water jets in the tub was very relaxing.
I'd love to stay here again!

We had a perfect vacation in this beautiful Inn

by A TripAdvisor Member

Our stay at the Blackbird Inn was a gift from our sons, and we can't think of a nicer gift! We arrived to be greeted by a bubbling pool and lush foliage in the parking lot. Then David greeted us warmly and showed us to our fabulous rooms explaining the many amenities of the Inn (including the cookie jar, refrigerator with cold drinks, an ice machine, coffee carafes, etc). Our room with beautiful paneling and an up-to-date bathroom was decorated in the style of the inn - early 1920's. We had a very comfortable queen bed, easy chairs and lamps, and a fireplace! Outside our double french doors was a lovely deck which overlooked our private garden and fish pond.
At 4:20 PM wine and hors d'oeuvres were served in the living room in front of the natural rock fireplace. We met the other guests who were fun to be with and we enjoyed good conversations. We later went to dinner at one of the great restaurants for which Napa is famous. Napa is in the heart of the California wine country where people can sample many types of great wine in the interesting wineries, The famous Copia is also located nearby in Napa. We learned that the Blackbird Inn was originally an office building. It has remodeled and restored with absolute loving care with emphasis on beautiful and interesting details such as the beautifully crafted front entrance depicting Ginkgo leaves and branches in the stained glass - gorgeous. This theme is carried throughout the building in glass, lamp shades and hand made furniture. Beautiful woods have been turned into gleaming paneling, doors, stair banisters, chests, tables, etc. - all done by the master craftsman and owner of the Inn.
After a good sleep and coffee and the newspaper before the fire in our room, we enjoyed a delicious home cooked breakfast in the lounge with some of the other guests. We then, very reluctantly, departed for some sightseeing. Our two days and one night seemed much longer because we were enjoying every minute of our stay. We returned home with a great sense of well being having had a perfect vacation in this beautiful Inn.

Excellent accomodations

The blackbird Inn was not only comfortable and convenient but also a simple way of treating ourselves to something special on vacation. The bed and breakfast is in a beautiful building convenient to down town. We were able to walk to dinner and wine tastings and return to the room to enjoy the fire place and jacuzzi bath tub.

The hosts were friendly and helpful and breakfast was delicious. We look forward to staying at the Blackbird again in the future.

Fantastic B&B

by A TripAdvisor Member

If you are looking for a quaint, more contempary than country B&B like we were - I would highly recommend the Blackbird Inn for your stay in Napa. We stayed in Room 8 - but peeked in a couple of others...and they all were fantastic! The Inn staff were extremely helpful and everyone at the Inn (and all of the San Francisco area) were very friendly. The wine and cheese hour was a great touch.

Wonderful B&B

This was our first trip to California and we wanted to stay in a Bed and Breakfast for our Anniversary. We found the Blackbird Inn to be very comfortable and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They gave suggestions for restaurants and things to do in the area. The bedroom was very comfortable and pretty. We would definitely stay there again if we ever get back to that area.

A charming destination for rest and relaxation

by A TripAdvisor Member

My husband and I just returned from two nights at the Blackbird Inn in Napa, CA. From the moment I made the reservations until our check-out, the service was very personal. I truly felt we were visiting friends and were guests in their very lovely home. The house itself is a California Craftsman style with beautiful wood throughout and comfortable furniture. We were told that all wood pieces (except the beds) are made by the owner. The guest bedrooms were cozy, comfortable and very clean. Every comfort had been thought of in the bedroom and the bathroom, right down to the ironing board and iron.

The staff was so courteous and thoughtful and very unobtrusive. I'm sorry to say that I slept through the full breakfasts served each morning, but did enjoy the complimentary wine and fresh veggies and perfect deviled eggs served in the afternoon. I also took full advantage of the home-made cookies in the cookie jar on the coffee table in the living room.

The Blackbird Inn is very unique and we recommend it. We look forward to returning. The location is perfect and the parking is as easy as being at home.

Great getaway for couples

by A TripAdvisor Member

My husband and I had not been away on a vacation together in over 13 years, long overdue. We heard about the BlackBird Inn from friends and decided to give it a try. Wow! What a perfect getaway for a couple. The rooms were decorated perfectly and the bed was heaven. The afternoon wine and cheese appetizers were a great way to get to know everyone that was staying at the inn and to hear about what wineries they went to and enjoyed. The innkeepers were very informative as well. I will recommend this inn to all of our friends and we intend on going back in November.

Beautiul place but problematic service

by TripAdvisor Member rinati

One of the most beautiful hotels we'd ever been to. We were very excited about being there and slept soundly until 2:00 AM when the couple in the room next to us had a huge fight. The walls are probably paper thin, so we heard every LOUD word. Since the clerk at the front desk goes home at 8:00 PM, there was no one to complain to, so we suffered silently until we could't bear it anymore and got them to be quiet. In the morning, when we complained to the clerk, he told that he's sorry but it's not the hotel's fault. We know this is true, but still, some compensation as an act of goodwill would have been nice, considering we hadn't slept half the night and there was no one there to help us.

Warm Welcome

We had a great three days at the Blackbird. The afternoon wine and snacks was a great time to sit around the fire place, relax have a glass of wine and talk with the other guests. The staff were also very helpful in making reservations at resturants. I really appreciate the extra service in making sure my husbands dietary needs were taken care of.

My parents had stayed at this inn last year and raved about their stay we are glad we took their advise.

Passing through looking for the perfect lunch

by ylisa

i'm not staying in the wine country this trip but passing through. I'm looking for the perfect lunch . Any suggestion??? A few that have been suggested were ....... Brix, zuzu, wappo, rutherford grille, celadon . An ideal place would have good food ( light but usual meal),deserts and good scenery . Any help would be appreciated!!!!!!!!!

Re: Passing through looking for the perfect lunch

Cindy's Backstreet Grill in St. Helena, but does not have the view of the vines like Brix. Another idea is to pick up some picnic type items at any one of the wineries, and then picnic at say St. Clement.

V Sattui in St. Helena also has a great place to picnic, a great gourmet deli, or you can get BBQ, plus some pretty tasty wines. You can also pick up some great gourmet take away at Dean & Deluca in St. Helena. We enjoyed Bouchon for dinner, dont know about their lunch (Bouchon tel. +1 707.944.8037 6534 Washington St. Yountville, CA 94599) Mustards in yountville was excellent, another pretty place to picnic is Rombauers Winery.
