More about Hennessey House Bed and Breakfast Napa
The Hennessey House is WONDERFUL!
by TripAdvisor Member Jessica_Winters
My husband and I stayed at the Hennessey House in Napa, CA for one night of our road trip honeymoon through California. It was by far one of the loveliest places either of us has ever stayed. The accomodations were wonderful and the house and proporty are beautiful. The staff were friendly, personable and made us feel right at home. We only wish we could have stayed longer! Free wine and cheese in the afternoon was great, and they are within walking distance of great restaurants and near lots of wineries! Breakfast was INCREDIBLE! We can't wait to go back to Napa and stay here again!

My husband and I were there to celebrate our one year anniversary (we're from NYC) and absolutely loved it. It was our first time in a B&B and we would absolutely 100% come back. The service is outstanding, rooms adorable, and breakfast delicious!!! You will not be disappointed
very relaxing

My husband and I stayed at the Hennessey House for our honeymoon. We stayed in the Duck Nook. The room was absolutely gorgeous and the bed was extremely comfortable. We loved the spa tub (a prerequisite for me) and the relaxing feel of the Hennessey House. The staff was very nice, they let us have our privacy and were extremely polite. We enjoyed the wine and other goodies in the afternoon when we were around. The location is great, it's within walking distance to downtown shops and restaurants. Overall I thought it was great. I wasn't super thrilled with the breakfast, it seems like that was a huge deal to the other reviewers, but it wasn't up my alley. I'm a pretty picky eater and the dishes seemed a little over the top. My husband and I were wondering why they couldn't serve pancakes and waffles, why did it have to be these strange entrees? Again, I'm picky, so that may just be me. Overall, a great stay. I'd stay again. In fact, I'm hoping to plan a trip there with my mom in the future!
Don't Stay Here - There are MUCH better options

There are quite a few problems with this B&B. Firstly - location. It's too far from the action (wineries and restaurants of Yountville etc.). So you'll have to drive in and out of everywhere. Secondly, the room was okay - not exceptional. Service was below average - the receptionist was cold and unwelcoming. On the positive side - breakfast every morning was excellent.
A Great Experience

We stayed at the Hennessey House from July 3-6, 2007. We loved chatting with the owners and the other guests about their experiences at the different wineries. We were given detailed directions to wineries, restaurants and local retail stores. We spent the 4th of July in downtown Napa (an event sponsored by a local credit union). It had a nostalgic hometown feel and we loved the fireworks at the conclusion. Our favorite winery was Rutherford Ranch and our favorite restaurant was Auberge du Soleil. A local restaurant called the Bounty Hunter was a lot of fun and the staff very adept at finding rare wines. Our experience was wonderful and we would definitely stay at the Hennessey House again when we visit Napa.
Like Staying In Your Old Aunt's Guest Room

Overall, this place seems like it could be nice if this is your type of thing. Summary of the decor: rose colors and flowers. We do not typically like to socialize with other hotel guests and this seemed to be the thing to do, especially during the wine hour in the evening (which was a nice touch).
The bathroom was really quaint - old claw foot tub and old fashioned toilet that sounded like the room would explode when flushed. We were the only room with a TV (the upstairs room). I must admit the towels were really soft and luxe. The bed was insane. We felt like we needed a step ladder to get on it. AND it was COLD! They doors lock to the B&B after 9 or 10 PM so that was a little weird. Breakfast was ok. The other reviews rave about it so we must have been there on an off day. Lots of fruit, tea, coffee and yogurt plus a hot dish that the staff cooks to order (I think) and brings out to guests. The location of the B&B is pretty good, only a 3 min drive from "downtown" Napa. We also received many good and detailed recommendations for dining which was very appreciated since you can only tell so much from sample menus.
The owner ran after us when we checked out to be sure he touched base with each guest and that everything was ok.
I would recommend trying to find something a bit more upscale or perhaps staying in San Fran if you are into hip/modern hotels.
Lovely B &B

Lovely place to stay. Staff was very friendly and attentive. They allowed us to store our bicycles in the garage every day. The breakfasts are entirely home made and are fantastic! The recipes were a must to take home! My wife felt she was at Grandmas house. Very quiet spot at nite. We slept great.
Wine and cheese every afternoon. Coffee available all day too.
This is a central location close to everything. I only wished there was better water pressure as the plumbing may need updating. It was difficult to get the water temperature right.
But overall we would definetly come back.
Incredible stay!

We were visiting San Francisco and decided to also spend a couple of days in the Napa Valley. We chose the Hennessey House from the website and found it to be a fantastic stay. Great staff, great rooms and an excellent location made our trip to the wine country an awesome experience.
The proprietors also know a thing or two about wine. They can direct you to many of the lesser known wineries as well as the more well established vitners. We ended up getting on the mailing list of a couple of wineries that we otherwise would have never found.
We shipped our bicycles out ahead of time and the folks at Hennessey accepted the shipment and stored the bikes for us. Great riding in the Napa area - especially in the fall or spring.
The meals were excellent and the house is truly a classic victorian, yet it had all the modern conveniences you'd expect like Wi-Fi internet access. I highly recommend it!
A great place to relax and unwind

An annual trip to Napa Valley has become a tradition for me over the past 4 years. I always stay at the Hennessey House. The hospitality and atmosphere are first class. Lorri and Kevin are wonderful hosts and take excellent care of this fine historic property in the heart of Napa.
The rates at Hennessey House are very reasonable and the food is superb. The staff is always willing to help with a reservation or a recommended itinerary. They are personable and will take as much or as little time with you as you need. They are highly accommodating and will alter breakfast to meet special dietary requirements.
Hennessey House has a very relaxing and restful atmosphere. I always look forward to my visit to Napa and my stay at Hennessey House to unwind from the day-to-day grind and stresses in my life. It is my home away from home Lorri and Kevin along with the staff are as welcoming as family.
I recommend a stay to anyone looking for a true Napa Valley experience. I just returned home and I'm already booking my next stay at Hennessey House!
Great Place to stay in Napa with Charm and Historic Ambience

The Hennessey House is the only B&B I've stayed at outside of Europe, and I can say that it is excellent. Plus, each room has it's own full bathroom, which you don't always get (ours had a clawfoot tub/shower). The Queen Anne Victorian is restored beautifully, staff is friendly and the breakfast is gourmet. The location is great, you are seconds to downtown Napa, or a short walk.

Lunch place between SFO airport and Napa
by Anaisa
Can any VT member suggest a good place to stop for lunch on our way to Napa from San Francisco International Airport?
Background Info: My husband and I will be arriving at SFO on a Tuesday at 12:14 PM. Assuming the flight is on time, we estimate that by the time we pick up the rental car it'll be about 1:00/1:15 PM. I would prefer to get out of the San Francisco area and cross the bridge before stopping for lunch. Where is a good place to stop? Is Sausalito a good place? We don't have any preferences as far as cuisine, but would like something good. We don't care for chain restaurants or fast food. We like to sample local flavors and are always willing to be adventurous when it comes to food; but also appreciate good sandwiches, salads, or a good diner-style pie. The place can be a hole in the wall or a fancy shmancy restaurant. The only rule is the food has to be good. (Also, we have to be able to walk-in w/o reservations due to uncertainty of arrival time.) Suggestions?

Horizons Restaurant in Sausalito. Take the first Sausalito exit after crossing over the G.G. Bridge and follow the winding road down to Bridgeway on the water level. Horizons is on the right not far after.

Scomas in Sausalito. Same directions as above, along the water. Great seafood and ask for a table with a view of the City. Otherwise, stop IN SF. Go to Ghiradelli Square and park underground. Eat at McKormick and Kullettos. GREAT view, excellent food, validated parking.

Many thanks to Callaveta and Brotherleelove for the suggestions.

It's a good hour drive, but the best dinner you'll ever have. Ever. The French Laundry (website: http://www.frenchlaundry.com). Plan on several hundred dollars per person, but if you can afford it, it's well worth it.

Buckeye Roadhouse

It's about 5-10 minutes north of the bridge and an institution. Excellent, excellent food. Just had dinner there last week, and as usual, I left thinking this is the best place to eat in Marin. It's closer to fancy shmancy. Defnitely not a hole in the wall. Decor is mountain lodge style. At the time of day you'd be getting there, you won't need reservations. Their Smores dessert is the best.
