    Nice Hotel, Location Lacking

    by

We booked one night at the River Terrace Inn in July for $129 on the Internet for a village standard (parking lot view) - a really good deal from what we'd seen of Napa and the Napa Valley. If you're not going to leave the hotel much, then this is a great place to stay.

What we didn't realize is that the town of Napa is at the far southern end of the wine trailis and isn't very picturesque (try Sonoma for that). Neither is the Napa River along which the hotel sits. Luckily it does sit back from the busy road.

Next time in Wine Country we would stay in St. Helena. I'm sure it's more expensive, but it seemed the most centrally-located to the wineries and more fitting my idea of what Wine Country would be like.

Unique Quality: The hotel itself was the nicest we stayed in of the five on this trip. High bed, CD/DVD player, free high speed Internet, nice bathroom with high-end toiletries, free use of robes, coffee maker, pool, excellent continental breakfast. There is a restaurant on-site, but the menu was limited, and there was only deck seating.

Very Pleased with the River Terrace Inn

by TripAdvisor Member Robert8181

We stayed at the River Terrace Inn for 3 nights (9/14 thru 9/16). Although the hotel is located in a fairly busy location in Napa it sits back from the road and the rear of the hotel is adjacent to the Napa River which gave it a more quaint feel. The hotel location is a convenient base for touring the Napa Valley wineries. The room was good size and had a small balcony that overlooked the river. The bathroom was good size and our room had a jacuzzi tub. They serve a limited continental breakfast (fruit, pastries, cold cereal, etc.) which we ate on the patio overlooking the river. It is a bit of a walk (easier to drive) to the historical downtown section of Napa where there are restaurants and shops. There is an outdoor pool that unfortunately does not get much sun in the late afternoon. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay. It was a good value (we had a special 3rd night free package) and we would be glad to stay there again.

Extremely Impressed

10/28/04-10/31/04: This was our first stay at the River Terrace Inn and we were extremely impressed. The staff was pleasant, the decor was lovely, the bathroom was roomy and the king size pillow top bed we had was extremely comfy. The continental breakfast (coffee, tea, juices, milk, fruit, bagels, breads, muffins, danish, yogurt, oatmeal, cereal, crepes or eggs & sausage) was perfect, loved the fresh baked soda bread with blueberry & strawberry preserves, just wish it had been available every morning. The patio overlooking the river was a great place to relax with friends.

Great new hotel

We just returned from a two night stay at River Terrace Inn - located along the river in downtown Napa. The location is proximate to Copia and the Wine train depot.
The staff was very friendly and helpful at check-in and throughout our stay. The interior design of the hotel is beautiful and has a great "wine country" feel. The rooms are large (especially the bathrooms), well appointed, clean and quiet. The bed was the most comfortable we have had in a hotel.
We especially enjoyed the complimentary breakfast and lobby wine bar.
Also, don't miss Restaurant Budo located proximate to the hotel.
We highly recommend this hotel.

A tip or two

by TripAdvisor Member Tucci

I booked the River Terrace Inn at their website and printed out the confirmation which was a good thing because my husband and I were billed a rate $30 higher than what we reserved! Keep the copies. The staff is cordial, the rooms awesomely comfortable, breakfast was more than continental. Don't get put in Room 212 if you can help it. It's right above the industrial size laundry room (is that an earthquake tremor or is it the spin cycle?). We asked the front desk when laundry gets finished and they offered to move us which was nice. We decided it wasn't worth it since the staff doesn't launder too late. BUT, 212 is also located next to the elevator the hotel encourages guest to use in the evening so as not to disturb guests on the other side of the hotel? A few "dings" later...
About a 4 minute drive to downtown Napa.
Overall a good stay.

Very Clean

by TripAdvisor Member agent

The outside is not very pretty but the inside and rooms make up for the dull outside. I was upset when I went to the web page to find out the specials are not reduced rates all the time like the page stated so watch prices when you book. I made a complaint so I was upgraded upon arrival to a nicer room. We had two rooms and both rooms were very clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would stay at this location again. It was the most comfortable and clean room we had during our trip to California.

Great little hotel, great patio out back

by A TripAdvisor Member

Great hotel with a great patio for drinking wine and having breakfast. Very good value. Wish it was closer to some of the restaurants since the taxi fares are so high. Highly recommended! Friendly staff and even free DVD rentals.

Lovely

Beautiful room with very comfortable beds. Breakfast was very good with fruit, muffins/pastries, eggs and ham. Lovely lobby with fireplace and view of the river. Would strongly recommend this hotel!!

Very nice

by TripAdvisor Member CaryandTeresa

We had a group of eight and everything went well. Although VERY plain on the outside, the hotel is quite nice on the inside.
Rooms and bed are more than comfortable, bathroom is very nice as well.
Great price for Napa and right across from the Napa Wine Train.
Restaurant is small, some of our food was cold, but the young gal that is a bartender/ waitress was very friendly with a good sense of humor.
Overall a great place to stay!

Pleasant, but loud

by A TripAdvisor Member

Generally, we were pleased with this hotel. The "junior suite" was well apportioned and not so junior. It featured a balcony, DVD player, jacuzzi tub/shower, and a comfortable, if firm bed. It was modern, yet inviting.

My only real complaint was the soundproofing, or lack thereof. For being such a nice hotel, you would expect that you wouldn't be able to hear anything from the hallway, upstairs, or room next door. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Perhaps we just chose a busy weekend.

Romantic hotel in Napa

by HarmoniousBotch

I'm thinking of taking my wife to Napa Valley for Valentine's day. Any suggestions for hotels?
Thanks,

I stayed at this place a few years ago -- it was nice then and it looks like they have made improvements. Harvest Inn St. Helena.

You better quit thinking and start acting. Valentine's Day is a popular stay in Napa Valley and prices can be very steep. It is also on a Saturday, so a weekend can be booked up to 6 weeks in advance. Good Luck. I have two places in mine that might be ideal. One might have a room available. River Terrace Inn in Napa is on the river and has rooms with views of the river. Right in town for a central location. See www.riverterraceinn.com
I am sure the other one is booked due to not having that many rooms but is very romantic and French European. Maison Fleuirie, a Four Sisters Inn, is located in Yountville, the middle of Napa Valley. See www.maisonfleurienapa.com

Another option is Sonoma. It's not only Wine Country, but it boasts the very first producer of fine wines in all of California: Buena Vista. A terrific and fun place to stay would be Ramekins, which is just off the Plaza. Not only do they have lovely rooms to stay in, but you can sign up for a cooking class at the same time. Very fun if you & your wife like to cook, or like to watch cooking shows, or are Foodies, or like to eat! :-)

Have a wonderful Valentine's Day, whatever you decide!

The Villagio in Yountville is very nice, we have also enjoyed stays at the Harvest Inn in St. Helena. In Sonoma, we love the Sonoma Mission Inn, actually in Boyes Hot Springs, about a 5 minute drive away from downtown Sonoma. Have fun! :)
