Now The Clarion Hotel!

UPDATE

The Holiday Inn in National City is now owned by, Clarion. Since my last visit here, October 2010, it has changed hands. I will check it out and let you know if there are essential differences in the offering.

This Hotel is located just north of the famed Mile of Cars, at Eighth Street on National City Boulevard. There isn't much around the hotel to attract a tourist, but it is near the 8th Street Trolley station and near the I-5 freeway making travel easier. It is also near the Naval Base and convenient for anyone visiting a sailor stationed there.

If you choose a room on the west side of the hotel you may have a view of the SD Bay and the ships docked at the Naval Station.

The rooms have recently been renovated and in each room is a refrigerator, microwave, coffee machine, hair dryer, iron and ironing board and free fast speed Internet service.

Unique Quality: I think the prices started at something like $74.00 per night. Depends on the "season."

The above was written in 2006. Today, summer of 2010, the price of a room runs about $115.00 per night. If you plan to stay a week or so they might drop it to $99.00 per night and if you register on-line, at least seven days in advanced and pay the full price it will be even less per night. All of these prices are not including tax, which runs about %10.

They offer free airport shuttle to an from San Diego International Airport. There is a multi-layer parking lot in the back of the building, but on their website it states, "No parking available." (Except, theydo have Free Handicap parking.) This is something you should check out with them before booking a room if you'll need parking. When I have the answer, I'll write it here.

I have not stayed at this hotel, because I live too near. I have been inside of it and it's Bar & Grill and can say that it is standard for a Holiday Inn/Clarion.

They have a pool, spa, restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner and bar, which is opened between the hours of 4 and 10 p.m.
