i did not personally stay here. my 18 yr old son and his 18 yrd old friend booked in advance on to stay the night of nov. 29, 2003. they were to attend a warriors game. they drove 6 hrs to reach oakland and when they tried to check in they were told they had to be 20 yrs. old. my son told them that there was no indication of that when he booked. the hotel clerk then had to make some calls to whom ever and finally decided they could stay. the thought of my 18 yr old so far from home and almost being denied to be able to stay there makes me very angry. i'm the first not to judge people for the most part on how they look. but my son and his friend are very clean cut, good kids who are of age. i think it is discrimination to assume because they are 18 that they are going to cause trouble. i'm sure there have been 18 yr old who have caused trouble, but i'm also sure there are people much older who cause trouble.
anyway, they ended up being able to stay and went to the warriors game and had a great time. very exciting game! these boys are very responsible, caring kind people. and they would never trash a hotel room or otherwise miss use or damage anyones property. i don't know what kind of danger or situation they would have been subjected to, had they not been able to stay. i find this irresponsible of the hotel.
