Oakland has the busiest seaport in nothern California. Harbor tours are available, from Jack London Square. You can also use the ferry boats (see my transportation tips) or take a ride on the USS Potomac. On these trips, you can observe giant ocean-going container ships, the huge cranes used to load and unload them, and the other vessels coming and going.
