Food prices?

by msdee1027

How much are the food prices from the drinks to the appetizers and to the buckets? And I was wondering if you have to pay more to sit in the patio?

Re: Food prices?

by HarmoniousBotch

Ummm..did you have any particular restaurant in mind?

Re: Food prices?

by lmkluque

Yes, which restaurant did you have in mind? The price of things would depend upon the type and style of the place you stop at. What do you mean by "buckets?"

There is no extra charge to eat in the patio of a restaurant. In fact, at some places the prices are higher inside the dining room if it offers an upgraded service from the outside dining area, such as Georges At The Cove in La Jolla, but I can think of no place in OB that has such a restaurant.

Oops!

Sorry, I misread the location. You asked about Oceanside, not Ocean Beach.

Still, the answer is the same for Oceanside as well.

Re: Food prices?

by msdee1027

yea I'm talking about the restaurant Rockin' Baja at the Oceanside harbor.

Re: Food prices?

by kzapanta

Rockin' Baja. I think I'm familiar with that. if its like, bucket of shrimp, or bucket of 'lobster'=slipper tails or langostine, then it's about $20 a bucket, drinks should be around $8. Fish tacos/burritos or semi fast food around $8. Chart House up the road, around $13 per drink and entrees $20 and up.

Travel Tips for Oceanside

Sailing the world

by TinKan

I look at the sail boats and wonder when it will be my turn to sail the world.

There were sail boats from all over the world in the bay that day. I do not know if it is normal to have so many boats from other places or just the time of year. I liked looking around the marina of Oceanside.

Sign my flag, please!

by matcrazy1

I am not sure whether it can become a new VT custom but I brought Poland's flag from Poland and asked my VT-friends to sign on the flag. Good idea?

The flag with many signatures is just behind me now hehe :-).

"Hollywood palm trees"

by matcrazy1

There are a lot of palm trees along the main and wider highways/streets of Oceanside including the main Pacific Coastal Highway 101 (marked as S-21) as you can see on my picture.

Palm trees grow exclusively in hot countries (not in Poland) so I always think about holidays when I see them. I am not specialist on palm trees but those one in Oceanside have very tall trunks without branches with relatively small mass of long pointed leaves at the top. Hmm... I call them "Hollywood palm trees" :-).

From my friend Linda (lmkluque):
Those palm trees had just been "trimmed," that is why there are so few fronds on the trees.
Thank you Linda.

South Coast Highway

by matcrazy1

Look at my picture: it's the main through south-north highway of Oceanside (Carlsbad - Oceanside - San Clemente) called South Coastal Highway south of Mission Ave. and North Coastal Avenue north of Mission Ave.

It's marked S-21 on traffic signs. S21 is a part of Pacific Coastal Highway 101 (or 1) which goes along the Pacific Coast from Mexico to... Canada :-)).

Oceanside's Oldest Cafe!

by Yaqui about 101 Cafe

In 1928 the Ekegren family opened a twenty seat diner along US Highway 101 and named it the "101 Cafe." It is the small dining room where the counters are now. The north dining room was added in the mid 1930's. The Greyhound bus made a stop in front until the 1940s when a station was built downtown. The 101 Highway was the main road to bring people from the Los Angeles area to San Diego. In 1942 the Navy Department purchased Rancho Santa margarita y Los Flores for use as a Marine Corps Base for out WWII effort. Things quickly changed as thousands of workmen moved into Oceanside to construct what would happen become the largest Marine Corps Base in the world. The was now called the 101 Cafe and Drive In and Trailer Park. The trailers use to house the employees and families. Sadly a bypass happened and this section was renamed the business route 101 in 1953. Yet, the drive throughs were popular then, but by the 1960s drive-in's were not as popular. The cafe found life as a coffee shop and called Jimmy's, Randy's, and now called 101 Cafe!

~ CASH ONLY ~ ATM at the counter:)

Open 0630am till Midnight Everyday The place is really small and the isle where the booths are narrow. Although, the food was good it took 45 minutes to get it and sadly their was only one waitress. She was doing the best she could to keep up, but she was really pleasant under pressure. We will not go back, but you have to try at least one time.
