If you stay at Coast Campground at Point Reyes National Seashore, you will have this beautiful beach as your playground. The beach is wide, even at high tide, and has that incredibly soft, silky sand. You can also walk for miles in both directions. Or, you can hike up the mountain to the summit of Mount Wittenburg (elevation 1400 feet).
The Coast Campground is just on the other side of the bluff on the left side of this picture.
If you prefer a campsite away from the sometimes severe conditions of the Northern California coast, a good option for you is the Sky Campground. This campground is located on the western flank of Mount Wittenberg at an elevation of just over 1000 feet. On a good day, you'll be rewarded with spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean and local beaches. This is also a walk-in campground. The trail to the campground is a little less than a mile and slightly uphill.
You must make a reservation. Campsites may be reserved up to three months (to the day) in advance. Call (415) 663-8054 between the hours of 9:00 am and 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
12 campsites, and one group campside. Several campsites are nestled in trees. Some have gorgeous views. For the best view, try to get campsite No. 10, although it is less protected than other campsites that are in the trees. Each campsite is large and private. An absolutely gorgeous campground.
