Kit Wat Motel Restaurant & Marina: Riverside accommodation

The Kit Wat is a very comfortable , clean and well located motel. It sits right on the Sauble River a very short walk from Lake Huron and its lovely beaches. Our stay was greatly enhanced by the staff. The lady who checked us in knew we were there for a family wedding, so immediately told us she had irons we could use. Also, when I asked if they had any pain relievers I could buy, she said they did not but gave me a handful of aspirin. Most of the rooms overlook the river and have a small table and chairs outside the room on the covered walkway. I think they also have some boats and kayaks that are available for guests as well as some larger rental possibilities. There is a nice restaurant on the premises for breakfast and dinner. Our double room was $85 per night.

Sheraton Suites Fairplex: Alternative to the airport hotels

This hotel is about 10 miles west of the airport and just outside the city boundaries, but it makes for a nicer and cheaper alternative to the stark businesslike atmosphere of the airport hotels. The hotel is set back from the highway in a nice semi-wooded area too, making it even farther away from the places near airport runways.

Like all Sheraton Suites, the hotel has large, comfortable two bedroom rooms, which are great if you hate that cramped feeling of a hotel room. The suites are pretty large too, with two televisions and nice bathrooms with a very home away from home feeling, or as close as you can get to it in a hotel. It is a convention hotel and has a good deal of meeting space. There's the usual average restaurant and bar here as well. The staff is awesome as well.

The other positive about the hotel and its location is that its rates are generally lower than the airport options, where you are paying mostly for location. Unless you have an early flight out, consider taking the drive over here as an alternative. Its about a 15-20 minute drive from the airport, but minutes away from the shopping malls.
