Travel Tips for Orange

Ride around along well kept streets

by marinarena

Taking a tour of Orange county by car makes for a scenic ride through most of the area. Treelined streets are numerous here, including ones also with vine and/or floral covered walls and flowers planted by the sidewalks. Streets in some spots, especially in South County are just immaculate. Orange county is a quintessential example of the serene, spotless suburban look .

Stay along the major roads of P.C.H. (inSeal Beach, Huntington Beach, etc) which turns into Coast Highway in Newport Beach and then to El Camino Real (San Clemente, Dana Point),

In North O.C, go along smaller roads to see the beauty of the suburban areas. Such examples are Santiago Rd in Orange, Nohl Ranch Rd in Anaheim, Bastanchury Rd (in Fullerton, Brea and Placentia) and Lambert Rd ( in La Habra but especially nice in Yorba Linda and Brea).

Here is a shot of Tustin, specifically along Tustin Ranch Rd.

Come get the Daily Treet

by marinarena

(Relatively) Old stuff!

If in the old Towne area and want a hamburger but not typical McDonalds or Burger King, try Daily Treet, an all-OC establishment, opened in 1949. This year is ancient for food joint standards. Old-fashioned and classic is right here with hamburger, fries and shakes. Oh Americana! The hamburger still stands, at : 292 N. Glassell

See & don't see the line drawn btwn North & South

by marinarena

Orange county is seen often in terms of north & south, despite there being a west and east & other sub-parallels. North & south are determined largely by economics & very generalized characteristics.

Distinction is particularly made of the South (called commonly South county) as being the wealthy, overly suburban part with a snobby or uppity attitude. This is true and not true, as is with all generalizations. True, South county does have the lion share of wealthy residents (weathly by S. California standards would likely be considered at least a half million dollar income for a household & more). However, there are those far less rich who manage to live here. True, South County is the more suburban part of the entire county. Besides the beaches, shops/businesses and a few landmarks on the tourist map (like the mission in San Juan Capistrano, all there is to see in South county are seemingly an endless number of homes along & beyond the horizon, often single-unit houses and townhouses. As far as attitude, parts of the South are unabashedly uppity- as seen on TV shows like The O.C. Demonstrating and flaunting wealth is part of the local culture in South County cities like Newport Beach.

The north, in some areas, resembles the south with wealthy neighborhoods & can get somewhat snobby. However, overall it does have more modest areas and is decidedly more down-to-earth.

Vans Skate Park- The Block at Orange

by marinarena

This is the original skateboard park in Orange County. It has been touted the the biggest and most techincally advanced skate park in the world. One sees many teenage boys here hitting the ramps here, as well as girls and the older crowd. if you don't have your own board, helmet and kneepads, you can rent some at the Vans store.

Cool Ice Hockey

by Reznut

Okay, I'm embarrassed about the name of our local Ice Hockey team but they are fun to watch if you like the game. The Mighty Ducks are at our nearby Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, very close to the Angels baseball stadium Edison Field.

Come spend a day with them Mighty Ducks!
