PG: Hotels with a coastal view around Lovers Point

The area around Lovers Point is certainly one of the nicest places in PG to get a hotel, both because you have fabulous views of Monterey Bay and because it is still an easy walk to downtown. From this area you also have easy access to the coastal recreation trail connecting you to Monterey by foot or bicycle. There are four key hotels along the water at Lovers Point from which to choose.


Lovers Point Inn (http://www.loverspointinnpg.com/ or 866-465-8192) is the three-story pink hotel right next to Borg's Motel. Winter rates are as low as $70 and summer rates peak at around $140. Their rooms have either one or two queen beds.

Borg's Motel (http://www.borgsoceanfrontmotel.com/ or 831-375-2406) is easily the most plain and least romantic of this group of hotels, but is also the best deal. Winter rates are as low as $80 a night while summer rates peak at about $160 for ocean view rooms. This hotel

Green Gables Inn (http://www.greengablesinnpg.com/) is a B&B with 11 elegant rooms ranging from $130-270 per night, including breakfast and afternoon wine.

Seven Gables Inn (http://www.pginns.com/) has some 25 rooms in three buildings ranging in price from $175 to $505.

Lovers Point

Lovers Point is the biggest municipal park in Pacific Grove. It includes Lovers Point Cove--a popular swimming beach, a public swimming pool, access to the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail, a small 20-space parking lot, great coastal views including Cannery Row, plenty of open grass for picnicking, and even an area famous for weddings.

Fine dining can be found at Latitudes, across the street along Ocean View Drive, and the Lovers Point Inn is a garish pink 70s hotel that looks kind of funky.

Lovers Point is also the central location for PG's annual Feast of Lanterns.

As Pacific Grove was originally founded as a Methodist Episcopal retreat, Lovers Point once had the name "Lovers of Jesus Point."
