desert survival

cotton, cotton, cotton! linen is also well adjusted to that heat the desert provides. light colored, lightweight skin covering clothes are the norm. they do get storms once in a while, so an umbrella couldn't hurt. Water, SUNSCREEN, 'sports drink', WATER, ALOE VERA, water, aspirin....... If you must park outside on a hot day: crack your windows to let your car 'breathe'. Use a sunshade in the front dash (and put one in the back window if you have an extra!). A white towel over the steering wheel could be helpful, as is a cloth or something to protect your hand when trying to open the car door on a really hot day (carry a cold drink to the car as extra insurance).
Pemtemwhaha

Cahuilla Gardian of Hoofed Animal
There once was a deity named Pemtemwhaha. He was powerful and respected deity who protected bighorn sheep, antelope, and deer. In the past, traditional Bird Singers would perform songs and Cahuilla shamans performed ceremonies to respect this deity.
This is a public art program to increase the awareness of the plight of the endangered peninsular Bighorn Sheep of the San Jacinto and Santa Rosa Mountains.
If you have not already notices, these wonderful pieces of art are located in many locations of Palms Springs and outside of Palm Springs. Look around, one might be staring you down. They are beautiful pieces of art. www.sccmuseum.org
Located in The Gardens on El Paseo for its lovely decorative lattice that adorns the entrance, there is more than meets the eye. It is 200, 000 square foot of trendy shopping. So many beautiful gardens with bronze sculptures, flowers, lush trees, and beautiful fountains abound in this area. So wonder around, you find other treasure lurks among the fauna.

This whole boulevard is art and that is not all of it. You will find it all over Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Cathedral City, and Palms Springs. It is amazing and I had wished I had much more time to seek it all out. I wish more communities would indulge in this public display of artistry.

Up above the Coachella Valley....

"what a view!"
On top of a ridge overlooking the Coachella Valley...if you come from San Diego thorugh the windy mountain pass - this will be the among the first sites of the Desert Communities you will see. It is worth pulling over to take in the views, especially if you are the driver!
The roads are dangerous so I wouldn't reccommend taking in too much of the view while driving!
