Drink Plenty of Water
Always carry a water bottle with you and keep hydrated. I found when I first moved to the Desert I was getting headaches and it was because I wasn't hydrated enough. Enjoy the desert and drink plenty of water!

I'll be spending Thanksgiving in the Palm Desert area and would like a recommendation for a good place for Thanksgiving dinner.
I have two kids (11 & 14) so someplace reasonably priced with decent food.
thanks
We are having Thanksgiving dinner at an Embassy Suites so you may want to call the Embassy Suites in Palm Desert. They are located at 74-700 Highway 111, Palm Desert. They do a nice job on the holidays for lunch and dinner, not to mention it's a good place to stay with kids since they have complimentary breakfast in the morning (full breakfast, not just coffee and a bagel), plus you have the luxury of a two room hotel suite for the price of a hotel room. Living room couch opens up into a bed, room has its own TV. The bedroom has either a queen or king bed with its own TV. You'd have some element of privacy. Pool for the kids, which they can definitely use even in November with the great desert temperature.

This is a small buiding in Thermal that is on a date farm. The back part of the building is used for packaging and shipping dates. The front of the building is the retail shop that sells about a dozen varietes of dates, loose by the pound or packaged in 1/2 to 15 pound containers. They have a film that explains where dates come from ,when they came to California and how they are grown. This small area around Thermal is the only place in the country where dates are grown. You can see the Date Palm trees outside of the building. At 59-111 Highway 111, Thermal CA. About 16 miles from Palm Desert.
This whole boulevard is art and that is not all of it. You will find it all over Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Cathedral City, and Palms Springs. It is amazing and I had wished I had much more time to seek it all out. I wish more communities would indulge in this public display of artistry.

Like her sister cities that surround her, it was the early setters of the Cahuilla Indians the “Agua Caliente” (Spanish for Hot Waters) who have lived here for the past 500 years. The first white settlers where the residents of the Old MacDonald Ranch, then around the 1920’s were renamed Palm Village. In 1943 an Army maintenance camp spurred residence to move in and make this their home. In 1951 the name was change to Palm Desert and now is the home of many snowbirds and regular residence that make this their home year around. This community was incorporated in Nov of 1973.
Palm Desert offers a vast array of shopping experiences: from the high-end stylings of El Paseo and the indoor Westfield Palm Desert to numerous strip malls and outdoor vendor markets. College of the Desert hosts the largest outdoor market in the Coachella Valley, with 340 vendors. You can find everything from art, clothing, and accessories to housewares and food.
Having grown from a once-a-month event to a Saturday-Sunday year-round event, the COD Street Fair attracts a crowd. Admission and parking are free, as are shuttles to take you from the parking lots to the center of activity and back. Hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. October through May and 7 a.m. to noon June through September. Another outdoor market — a certified farmer’s market — recently began operating from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Palm Desert Visitor Center.
