What will be open 13 July onwards please

by rodocanachi2007

Hi there, we have been before to Palm Springs, think it was August last time but we are coming over 13 July this time.

We went to the Lord Fletcher Inn before. Will it be open. I have heard many restaurants are shut at this time of year. If there are any that are good and are open please let us know.

Also, apart from Vons are there any small shops to buy things for the home, i.e. meat, veg etc.for the BBQ

Thanks for any advice.

Thanks. Jane and Martyn in England

Most restaurants will be open. The best place for groceries is Trader Joe's, it is located near the Target in Cathedral City of East Palm Canyon Drive. Also, Stater Brothers is cheaper than Vons and has better meat. I'm sure that you know that the temperature will be over 100F during the day (38C to 46C).

Also, one of the best restaurants is Zin American Bistro on Indian Canyon. It gets consistently good reviews and is not over priced. A lot of people like Le Vallauris but it is overpriced in my opinion. Copley's is good and located in Cary Grant's former estate. For lunch I like Manhattan in the Desert, it has huge sandwiches.

Travel Tips for Palm Springs

Spend some time in luxurious...

by american_tourister

Spend some time in luxurious accomidations. Palm Springs panders to the rich and this is the place to splurge. Spending the weekend alone with my wife in a huge house with a custom pool. It belongs to her boss and he let us use it for the weekend.

Pemtemwhaha ~Gardian of Hoofed Animal

by Yaqui

Cahuilla Gardian of Hoofed Animal

There once was a deity named Pemtemwhaha. He was powerful and respected deity who protected bighorn sheep, antelope, and deer. In the past, traditional Bird Singers would perform songs and Cahuilla shamans performed ceremonies to respect this deity.

This is a public art program to increase the awareness of the plight of the endangered peninsular Bighorn Sheep of the San Jacinto and Santa Rosa Mountains.

If you have not already notices, these wonderful pieces of art are located in many locations of Palms Springs and outside of Palm Springs. Look around, one might be staring you down. They are beautiful pieces of art.

This one is located in:

Why isn't Zin Listed

by Californiafoodie about Zin American Bistro

American food with a French Accent, casual, bistro feeling. The food was amazing and the wine list leaves you wanting to go back. Great seafood and specials. Had a Hanger steak that was out of this world! Tender flavorful and a tasty sauce. Wife had rabbit and fries. No words to describe it. You must try this restaurant.

LG's Prime Steakhouse!

by american_tourister about LG's Prime Steakhouse!

LG's is where the local well heeled crowd goes for high cholesterol, high fat content, expensive meals. The jet set prefers Morton's and I like Morton's too but I much prefer LG's.

Everything is ala carte and is wonderful. Even the basic house red wine was good! Open 365 days per year. It is very pricey but worth every penny. Expect to drop a 'C' note ($100.00) each for dinner. Aged Ribeye with garlic smashed potatoes and Caesar Salad made tableside. Chase it with the house cabernet. You can order more expensive wine but their house wine is very good. Save the money for the tip.

Check Annual Maintenance

by dahowarduk

Despite emailing the aerial tramway company, 1 month before we travelled, we got no reply (and no interest). Imagine our delight to arrive from the UK to find the tramway was closed for its annual maintenance.

Palm Springs is well past its 'best before date', and is a dead loss. Take a tour around the houses where people used to live before they died when they got to about 90. We wrer the only 2 on the tour bus!
Count the number of businesses that are closing down.
Try to get the local tourist office to make contact with you..no chance!
