Yellow lined road
Not far from the departure of the Aerial tramway, the road is lined with small bushes covered with yellow flowers. They would have been planted, there would not be more of them ! They are wild flowers, growing naturally.

Hope you get to take the tram; it is a spectacular experience. I'm terrified of heights and even I enjoyed it. LOL

There are a lot of golf courses in and around Palm Springs. Many of them are right in the middle of town. They come in all flavours -- from 9 hole all par 3's to championship courses; and many of them are open to public. It is all the more amazing in that Palm Springs is in the middle of a desert. The only way to get grass to grow is to water every day. Other than golf courses, there is not a lot of grass in Palm Springs.
We also found that the prices varied greatly - depending on the season, on the day of the week and on the time of day you are considering playing. For our visit in April, the price to golf from 3pm until dark was $20 for 18 holes at a par 3 golf course and $50 (with mandatory use of golf carts) for 18 holes at a traditional golf course.
Desert Pioneer, Carl Lykken, built the first general store in the village in 1914. For many years it contained the only telephone and the post office. The store was remodeled with the existing overhang and arches when sidewalks were installed in the early 1930s.
Carl Lykken helped to establish the first Police Protection District and served on it board until the City incorporated in 1938.

This nicely decorated Mexican restaurant is obviously popular with locals and visitors alike...at least judging by the long lines on a Saturday night. We liked the atmosphere with its open air dining, colorful bougainvilla growing along the outside walls, and a live music band keeping the mood festive. The food was good for the most part, but the over 1 hour wait was terrible. They told us 45 minutes and we waited at least an hour and a half to get seated. I forget the spanish name of this dish but its a plate of several large shrimp wrapped in bacon with a chili sauce on the side. It also includes Spanish style rice and tortilla soup. It's very good if you don't mind paying $20 for the plate.
My family did a Hummer Tour with Elite Land Tours and it was a blast to say the least! Our guide was very knowledgeable and entertained us and the kids. We saw incredible scenery and wildlife and it was very remote. Our guide told us that there were 14 million people within a couple of ours from our location and yet we did not see a single person the entire time we were out on the backcountry trail. It was truly amazing. The ride was very comfortable - you don't feel the bumps in a Hummer. WE saw a horned lizard that can squirt blood out of its eyes. I knew about it since I just saw it on Animal Planet - extreme defenses show. It was neat to see it in person. The guide picked us up and dropped us off right at our hotel - first class service. They have many tours to choose from so we will definitely be back to do another one. I can highly recommend this as something really special to do if you are vicsiting Palm Sprins.
