You must take a day to go to...
by RainWispr1
You must take a day to go to Joshua Tree National Park. It's about a 45 minute drive from the city. We got there in the afternoon and took an early evening walk in the 'high desert'. The sunset was beautiful. We sat on a BIG rock and watched the last rays disappear in the west. As it got dark, we walked back to the car and I thought about snakes. It had cooled off considerably and I thought it would be the time snakes would come out to cool off too. We didn't see any snakes but as darkness fell, the stars overshadowed even the beauty of the sunset. There were millions and millions. It seemd like there were more stars than darkness. The sunset and starry night at Joshua Tree was my fondest memory of our Palm Springs trip.
Living Museum of California Indian Culture
by Odinnthor
I am often asked if there was anything to see on the road from Phoenix to Los Angeles. There is the Joshua Tree Nat'l Park, and in addition, there is always Palm Springs. They have the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum, on Canyon road. But a better one is "The Living Mueum of California Indian Culture" in Cabazon, between Banning and Palm Springs. This is great museum of the local tribes, and is presented as "living history". My daughter was fascinated by it, when she visited around the age of 12. Worth a visit. The aside from the regular museum, there are "scenes" from early tribal life set up in a fascinating display, that conveys the life and lifestyle of the early California desert tribes. It is well worth a visit.

Oasis Hotel Historical Marker
by Yaqui
The Oasis Hotel, constructed 1923-25, contained approximately 20 units and included the Tower Building the only three story hotel building in Palms Springs for many years.
The 40 foot tower, with its pyramidal roof, provided access to the upper story rooms and a roof top terrace. The topmost room was called “Loretta Young’s Room”, because it was her favorite in Palm Springs.
The Modern/Art Deco-style hotel was designed by Lloyd Wright the son of Frank Lloyd Wright, and constructed of solid concrete using a technique which was quite advanced for that time.
The McCallum adobe, once located on this site has been moved to the village green.

The Fisherman's Market
by RainWispr1 about The Fisherman's Market
The atmosphere is laid back. To order, you must stand in line. They have a nice outdoor seating area. We went back twice the food was so good! Everything on the menu was great and the prices were reasonable. Alaska Air flies into Palm Springs every day and delivers fresh Alaskan fish. Eating fresh fish is truly an experience. Fish back home just isn't the same after the Fisherman's Market!
Hiking
by kfizyta
Once at the top, during winter time, you can rent snow shoes or cross country skis or just plain hike the many great trails .
The skies are usually sunny and clear making for spectacular views.
Within a 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile of the lodge there are many people walking about, but further on it is relatively peaceful and relaxing.
