Local Tour Companies in Palm Spgs/Palm Desert, etc.

by malkey

I'll be in Palm Spgs. in a week with a group of tourists from Europe. Any recommendations for must see sites and some local tour companies who give tours to the famous landmarks would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Malcolm (in Oakland)

Try Grey Line or is it Gray Line? A little fuzzy today

Gray Line is namely for mass tourism. I'm thinking more of a tour company that does smaller groups. Can you recommend any smaller companies? Please advise.
Thanks.

Indian Canyon is a "must see" - also, off the beaten path out in Desert Hot Springs (North Palm Springs), it is worth the ride to see Cabot's Indian Pueblo Museum and do take the tour there so you can know about this pioneer. The panoramic view of the entire Palm Springs Valley is spectacular from Mission Lakes Country Club, nestled against the Northern Desert Hot Springs mountains - well worth the 20 min ride from central Palm Springs.

For your future reference, here is a link to our condo. Since we now live in Rome, we rent our desert retreat all year round. Enjoy your desert journey....

Travel Tips for Palm Springs

Visit some of the funkier...

by realbarbie

Visit some of the funkier shops on Palm Canyon. I found the perfect tiara to go with my 'Princess' bowling bag. People watching. The people of Palm Springs seem to be as inordinately obsessed with their appearance as any group I've ever encountered. From the obvious plastic surgery to the ultra-chic clothing, I found the denizens of this desert city to be a visual treat (though, admittedly, I felt rather frumpy in their company).

Coachella Valley music festival

by bruingirl

This is a HUGE 2-day music festival that takes place on the polo fields in Indio, a 30 minute drive from Palm Springs. It usually happens during the last weekend in April so look for it then. Local music stations like 106.7 KROQ will promote from about a month before so you can get information about it then. It draws thousands of people from all over the place who like to listen to great music and chill. The weather is great, the music is amazing, and the people are chill....what more could you ask for??? You'll see bands and DJs like Beastie Boys, Weezer, White Stripes, Underworld, Chemical Brothers, Moby, Jack Johnson, Jane's Addiction, Coldplay, etc, etc....the list goes on and on! Please check my travelogue for more pictures! :)

Thai Food

by awayhome about Thai House

For me Thai food is the best food. Maybe it's because I was born in Thailand. I was surprised to see many Thai restaurants in Palm Springs. You can find Thai food almost everywhere in America.....and now you know that you can even find it here along Palm Canyon Drive.

Photo of wine room but martini's here are better

by JimTammy about The Falls Prime Steakhouse and Martini Bar

Dining becomes entertainment. Tableside ceasar salad, steak Dianne or bananas foster preparation and prime rib carving keeps focus on the food. The balcony seating allows outdoor street views. The lighting, the art and ambiance are all part and parcel of an enjoyable evening. Applewood smoked pime rib. The smoky flavor is a natural complement to all the beef. With a favorite beefy red wine from the cellar of course.

A Must See

by torototammy

The world's largest roatating tram ride starts from at an elevation of 2,643 feet to the 8,516 feet high up on Mt. St. Jacinto. It only takes 11 minutes! You can try some recreational activities like hiking and snowshoeing at the top. Even if you don't have time to do so, the ride itself is worth trying. Enjoy the view and the diversities of wilderness.

You'd better go there early in the morning to avoid lining up.
