Encelia farinosa
This close-up on a flower of Encelia farinosa* shows clearly that it belongs to the Asteraceae family, ie the Daisy family. It is used in revegetation mixes but tend to dominate any other plant in the mix as it is very powerful.

Rock climber heaven.
Hi,
Can anyone suggest any special activities for kids in the Palm Springs area? And has anyone visited the dinosaurs at Cabazon? What's there to see and do, and is a visit recommended? Thanks in advance.
Cathy
At the western edge of Palm Springs there is a tram that heads up the mountain. It will keep kids entertained for a few hours.
I hear that there is a water park and a zoo and a WWII aircraft museum near there, but I haven't been to any of them.
There's a great museum with Indian artifacts. Bear in mind that Palm Springs is a checkboard of ownershp relations between golf club wielding retirees and the indians who were originally clinging to desert life outside Los Angeles. I also think that the art galleries are a place for older children, as the artist themselves frequently present and talk about their work.
Thanks for your replies. It was for my sisters, who live in San Diego and have been to Palm Springs many times, so they know the milieu---which is why they're asking for things thay might not have noticed among all the retirees. Our brother has business meetings in Palm Springs, but they all will be going back to San Diego later in the visit.
I have lived here my whole life and now have two children ages 7 & 11. There is a childrens disovery museum in Rancho Mirage, both of my children enjoy it, although my 11 year old now finds it boring. We have visited the dinosaurs and inside the T-Rex is a gift shop so it should take you only a half an hour or so.Also The living desert is a zoo full of desert animals and plant life. That is a must. That will take you half a day, and make sure depending on what month you go to do it early, because in a couple more weeks it will be very hot(90's to 115 in August). Hope this helps.
I took our family on a Hummer Tour with Elite Land Tours - they loved it! The kids got educated and entertained at the same time - a miracle if you knew my kids. I highly recommend this company - the guides are fantastic!

There seem to be thousands of these massive, extra terrestrial looking, windmills spread out row after row as you near Palm Springs on Highway 10 coming from Los Angeles. There are really a sight to behold and are probably worth a photo stop. We had tried to get closer but there don't seem to be any roads that are open to the public so your best bet would be to book a tour which can be done in Palm Springs. This region is said to be one of the windiest regions in the world and is perfectly suited for generating power by wind thanks to these windmills.
Well what's to tell about the Pizza hut...they sell pizza's at a reasonable price and usually the are good of taste... So why not try this hut completly build in the style of Palm springs ? I especially like the pan pizza's.
The Cold Stone Creamery is the direct result of two ice cream lovers' crusade for the perfect ice cream dessert. This concept features super premium ice cream and yogurt made fresh every day (with a range of mix-ins custom blended to order on an ice-cold stone). I can't remember the correct name off the top of my head but it included french vanilla ice cream, caramel, walnuts and fudge.
The Palm Springs Desert Museum features art, much with an emphasis on the American West & the desert regions of the South West. There are modern art collections, Indian art, art related to Hollywood, & photo exhibits all meant to catch your attention. the museum is located around the corner from the "Willow spa resort hotel" a few blocks away from the main street.
