A Jewel in the Desert

I hate to write this as I do not like the idea of sharing such a fine place as this and my biggest fear of not being able to get a reservation when I want to visit. My partner and I visit serval times a year a there in no other place we would ever consider staying in the Palm Springs area. We come to defrost from the northern tundra called South Dakota and love the ability to hug palm trees.
When we first came to stay at the Old Ranch Inn we came as strangers but left as friends with the owners-Larry & Ed. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. It is tiny-only a few rooms-yet you are treated as if you were in a five star resort. It is far from pricey and the rates should be a lot more-except for us.

Unique Quality: The rooms have kitchens for you to have snacks, cocktails or even make meals but too many good places in PS to eat and who wants to cook on vacation. The beds...well let me leave it at that. The place is immaculate. As you walk through the front doors its like walking throught the pearly gates. This is heaven. It is a mixed crowd gay and straight and all mingle well. The grounds are charming and in walking distance of town.

Delightful accomodations in Palm Springs

by A TripAdvisor Member

My husband and I spent three nights here and couldn't have been more pleased. Our room was beautifully decorated, impeccably clean. and extremely quiet. The owners were pleasant and helpful. I would definitely reccommend the Old Ranch Inn and look forward to a return visit.

PURE SLICE OF HEAVEN....

I have just returned from a stay at the OLD RANCH INN in Palm Springs, CA. I have to tell you, that from the moment you walk through the enterance of the big beautiful wood doors until you check-out you are treated like family , not just another guest. The Owners ,Ed and Larry , are absoloutely wonderful and make you feel welcomed from the moment you check-in. There's nothing they 've forgot to include and consider for the comfort of thier guests!!The rustic feel of the Inn is wonderful and very relaxing. It's like getting a hug from a dear friend. You can't help but feel welcomed.
My room was fantastic with french doors that opened onto the pool area. I loved the private kitchen and patio. The bed was one of the most comfortable ones I've ever slept on , with pillows I could choose from to sleep on,. I have to say, the very large bathroom was wonderful with large towels and all the immenaties you need to give you a great start for the day.. It's fabulous!! Everfything in my room and all around the Inn is exceptionally clean , bright and welcoming. You just want to stay there and relax.
The poolside is to die for. There's a fabulous outdoor kitchen the guests can use with an awning, ice maker, plenty of tables with shading o enjoy a drink or two, or/and eat lunch or dinner, while listneing to music . I loved getting to sit around the pool in the evening under the stars and have a few wonderful drinks while listening to the most soothing music and visiting with a very close friend. It was a pure slice of heaven. I hated to have to go to bed.
The entire Inn , from the inside and out , is an experience I will never forget . SO, if you want a true relaxing and wonderfully enchanting get-a-way I'd recommend staying at the OLD RANCH INN...Dee Dee Plummer from Texarkana, AR

Had a wondderful time!!!!

by TripAdvisor Member Brenda_Y_C

My husband and I take turns each year picking a place to celebrate our anniversary. This year, our 8th, was my turn. We were a little low on funds this year so I couldn't think of a place to go that was both very nice and inexpensive.
We were to start of little weekend getaway on Friday, but here it was Friday morning and I STILL did not have a reservation made anywhere. I searched tripadvisor and read reviews about a lot of places and most of the top rated hotels were booked. I checked the B&B category and called the top rated one - The Desert Hills Inn but they were booked -- which was a good thing!!! I called the next listed one - The Old Ranch Inn which had even better reviews and they had a vacancy. I did not know what to expect and thought it better be good since I know my husband would have been disappointed if it turned out to be a dump since I waited until the LAST MINUTE to book our getaway weekend. Actually we had to cut it one day short because they only had vacancies for Saturday and Sunday evening.
Well as soon as we drove up and saw how nice the exterior looked I felt relieved. As we walked down the cute corridor to the office I knew the rooms were going to be nice. When he took us to our room, room #3, I was very much suprised! It was GREAT!!! The rooms were decorated so nice and everything looked brand new! It was meticulously clean and the bed was soooo comfortable. I can go on and on about this place. The courtyard around the pool is just perfect - quaint and charming with hummingbirds all around the trees. We will definately be back soon - this time for a longer stay!!

Thank you so much Larry & Ed for providing such a nice place for couples to get-a-way to! You don't find many places like this. This will be our new place to go!

Wonderful Place!!!

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights in the King 1 Bedroom Suite on a Friday and Saturday night. On our way to the hotel, we found ourselves stuck on I-15 in near stand still traffic. The radio said the backup was 3 hours and we still had a ways to get to the inn even after the 3 hour point. I called the inn to let them know we would be late. To our relief, Ed, one of the owners of the inn, knew another way off the interstate that we could take to reach the inn. Ed gave us perfect directions to reach the hotel to get us out of the traffic bind(THANKS AGAIN ED!!). When we arrived, we were most impressed with the property. It really is a beautiful property. Ed and Larry told us they did lots of renovating to make the property what it is....nice work!!!! The pool area is just beautful...from the lighting, to the fruit trees, the flowers, and all the humming birds buzzing around, etc....just perfect!! The property is QUIET and is located in a nice quiet residential area. We both enjoyed starting our day by just walking around the streets close to the hotel. The front of the property faces a beautiful view of a mountain which is very close to the property. We were also most impressed with the room itself. It was decorated nicely and was clean. Last but not least, both owners, Ed and Larry, are some of the nicest, most pleasant people you will ever meet. We had some nice conversations on many topics.

Any problems? Yes....we had to leave!!! It was a place we could have spent a month at and that still wouldn't have been enough. For now, we have great memories of our truly wonderful stay.....we will definitely be back.

Highly recommended ! A very cosy place to stay.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for one weekend night on October 14th-15th, 2006. I had read the reviews on Trip Advisor and was curious if it could live up to all the rave reviews. I am very happy to report that it did. I phoned the hotel directly and spoke to Ed. He was very accomodating (excuse the pun) and helpful. He sent me an e-mail to conform my reservation then. We arrived late the next day but he was a very gracious host and showed us all around the property and our room, explaining very well how everything worked. Most of the 8 rooms are around the pool.

Our room was like a showroom you find in an upscale furniture store. It was great! There was a very comfortable king-size bed, a large bathroom, a kitchenette (with a microwave oven, small fridge, and coffeemaker ) a plush chair to sit and read in, and a t.v. (with built in D.V.D. and V.H.S. player). The bed was extremely comfortable to sleep in and the bedding was very soft. Don't worry about the hot days or cold nights of the desert while you are in this room - it has a good A/C system too. Ed told us the hotel was totally renovated last year and the bathrooms were enlarged then.

In the morning breakfast was served as a buffet with packaged pastries, juice, coffee, tea, muffins, and fresh fruit. Grapefruit trees overhang the breakfast area. The only criticism I have of this place is a lack of a complete, fresh breakfast like true bed and breakfast inns have. However, given the outdoor buffet and the desert heat this might be impracticable. Nevertheless, Our host Ed said they are trying to come up with something better for breakfast.

Lastly, the cleaning lady let us walk through some of the bigger rooms which included entire living rooms. They are amazing (and very up to date).

I HIGHLY recommend this place and do plan to return . The Old Ranch Inn is only a 4 block, flat walk from the downtown strip of Palm Springs, which has a lot of restaurants (for lunch and dinner) as well as shopping.

By the way, I did get to walk through the Coyote Inn which is next door. It's rooms are cheaper in price but also have not been updated in design since the 1970's! Furthermore, The Coyote Inn offers nothing for breakfast.

Cozy, first class, Inn

by TripAdvisor Member ant9801

This is a cozy, very comfortable, first class Inn. The rooms are all well furnished, very clean and with kitchenettes. The pool can be just a few feet from your room depending on your room, You can have a gorgeous view of the mountain from your bed . Since this is a small Inn you will get as personalized service as you could ever ask for. One, or both of the owners are always present during the day to give advice, make reservations, or take care of any problems. They, or the housekeeper will provide pool towels, and bottled water as required. If you want the comfort of staying in your favorite relative's house without the hassle this is it. CAUTION: DO NOT drive here from LAX between 3pm and 7pm. It is a nightmare. The traffic is unbelievable. Fly into Ontario or Palm Springs.

"Bear Claw" with your tea?

by TripAdvisor Member TravelOnThis

First off, Larry & Ed, owners of the Old Ranch Inn, are kind, gracious guys. Owners aside, there wasn't much fabulousness to be discovered at the Old Ranch Inn. I decided to shop around after a few days in Palm springs and found other Inns with larger pools, hot tubs, work out facilities, wine and cheese in the evenings, and COMPLETE breakfasts for the SAME PRICE (unlike the pre-packaged "Bear Claw" & "Honey Bun" type pastries that actually shocked me because of the cost I was paying to stay at the ORI). In short, I found another inn with more amenities than the Old Ranch Inn had to offer--and I PAID LESS!!. If I were you, I'd shop around a bit and check out places like La Dolce Vita Resort (which is not where I ended up because they were booked). I felt like Larry & Ed want to run the ORI in a "hands off" kinda way, but it shows in a bad way. I used to work for a B & B where the owners/workers got up and prepared home-made muffins, cut fruit, and put out a nice spread that made you feel welcomed--AND that you were getting what you paid for. I can get a "Bear Claw" from a machine for less than a $1.

On Cloud 9....

We were priviledged to spend a couple of nights at the Old Ranch Inn in Palm Springs, CA........We can't say enough good about how wonderfully Ed and Larry took care of all our needs while we were there. They go way out of their way to be sure that their guests are happy and well accommodated
The rooms are gorgeous, there was coffee and goodies for us in the morning which was a perfect way to start off the day. The pool area is beautifully landscaped , you can sit and enjoy the mountain view , humming birds, fruit tress and wonderful sunsets. It was an easy walk to downtowns' stores and resturants ( from the Inn ) and we had no problem finding our way back. In the evening it is a real escape from the work-a-day world to sit there and enjoy the seclusion and let the world go by. We had the best night sleep on the extremely comfortable bed and perfect pillows. We enjoyed the extra large bathrooms and we loved the big towels . The kitchnette was wonderful too. There was nothing that Ed and Larry didn't think to enclude in our stay there.
We will be recommending The Old Ranch Inn to everyone we know and especially to anyone who needs an escape for a few days. ...it's GREAT. !!!! Dick and Gwen Bennett...Victorville, CA

Fantastic honeymoon

by TripAdvisor Member njmatth

We stayed at the Old Ranch Inn for 2 nights on our honeymoon in September and had a fantastic time. The location is perfect as are the hosts, Larry and Ed. Every little touch was thought about and the rooms really were home from home. So luxurious and different, each bedroom had a slightly different theme. The kitchens were well equipped with a large fridge and microwave, but Palm Springs itself has so many lovely places to eat you don't really need the fridge other than for drinks. We were so pleased to arrive here and finally get to relax and send our regards to Ed and Larry for everything. PS The humming birds are amazing!!!
