The Palm Springs Modern Oasis
Orbit In has been featured in numbers of those "cool/hip" hotel books. It's hip yet the service was very friendly.
There are 9 suites sorounding the beautiful pool. Each one is named and has theme interior design. We stayed in "eames studio". Needless to say, it features their furniture.
"The original pink tile bathroom" was cute but the shower needs more improvement.
Smoking is permitted in the private patio.
Unique Quality: Poolside complimentary breakfast was great. "Schwinn" bike ride was fun.
Directions: 5 blocks off Palm Canyon Dr., center of the village
Mid Century Modern Oasis
The studio suite we stayed in has a king bed and sitting area includes two Eames Side Shell chairs and a Bertoia Dianmond chair in their good condition.
Smoking is allowed at your private patio.
We had complimentary breakfast poolside using candy colored Melmac cups and dishes.
Unique Quality: It has a beautiful mountain view from the heated outdoor pool. Frey House 2 can be seen on the hill.
More about Orbit In
Fantastic - a must
We only stayed for 2 nights but it was just awesome. We loved it and would go again anytime. We are thinking of making this a yearly treat!
The new owners (since Oct 07) are simply lovely. They make sure everything is as you would like and that you have everything you need. Juice and water are always available. As guests were leaving, the owners would insist in giving water! The staff is just as friendly and welcoming.
The salt water pool and salt water spa are a great feature. This was actually the selling point for us. We enjoyed the firepit next to the spa as well.
We had the Atomic Paradise room and we liked it very much. The room was clean, the bed comfortable (great linens), useful kitchenette, music available to play in your room and super soft and comfy bathrobes. We had plenty of closet space. There is a closet filled with games, books and movies that are available for guests to enjoy. Internet access was included and acessible from the room or the pool area.
Happy hour is a great way to meet the owners, staff and guests. Everybody was just so nice. We tried the Orbitini and liked it, refreshing. However we are wine drinkers not much martinis so we had the wine the next day and it was a good wine - not a cheap thing - which is a nice touch for a freebie.
Continental breakfast was included but we didn't eat there. Although I saw they had "organic" milkbox which is surpising to find in an included breakfast.
It is just a few blocks away from the downtown area so it's possible to walk to.
We are no modern fans but fell in love with the place.
Relaxation and Location
We just had a very relaxing time with our two grown-up daughters at the Orbit In Oasis. We stayed in the Leopard Lounge.
The location is only two blocks from the heart of downtown Palm Springs, yet the setting is very quiet (our daughters slept until 11:00!) with wonderful views of the mountains and palm trees.
The beds are VERY comfy. I never wanted to get up in the morning!
The pool is heavenly, and the saline water feels quite "soft" compared to water with lots of chemicals.
The owners and other guests were charming and friendly.
(This negated my only concern about booking this hotel. I was worried that it would be filled with pretentious "architecture snobs." Wrong!)
When there was a problem with the AC in our room, we spent the night in a lovely room at their sister hotel, The Hideaway, a half block away.
We all enjoyed our stay, and will happily return as soon as we can.
Great Hotel, Great Location...can't think of a better place to stay.
We loved our stay at the Orbit In. We stayed one night at the hideway (only folks there, felt like we had to compound to ourselves), and three nights at the Orbin In Oasis. Love the rooms, the pool area, the bar, and all the extras you get. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a true palms springs experience. The decor is amazing, and the location well it doesn't get any better for dining and cocktails. Great staff, great free breakfast and cocktails...we'll be back for sure
The Orbit In is a sweet little property tucked away at the base of the mountains in Palm Springs. It is everything you could want in a small, mid-century hotel. The updates that have been made to the hotel do not compromise its historical integrity, the pool is great, the beds are crazy comfortable (at least in the Leopard Lounge, which is where we stayed for three nights) and the owners are very accommodating. A very nice continental breakfast is included (yogurt, fruit, bagels, granola, juice and coffee) as is a cocktail hour featuring a martini made with cranberry juice and sake. The rooms are cleverly furnished with mid-century couches, tables, dishes, and movie posters. The pool and spa are both saline, very clean, lovely pool-side furniture, and surrounded by palm trees and other large green leafy foliage. The property is quiet, the rooms seem well insulated (we could barely hear our neighbor closing the door), there is free parking, and you can take very nice walks through the neighborhood and a couple blocks down to the main drag in Palm Springs which is a bit generic, but pleasant enough. The hotel provides cruiser bicycles if you'd rather pedal than walk. All in all, I would stay there again for sure!
Cool place in the desert
Loved our recent stay at the Orbit In-- well worth the 4 days and 3 nights we spent there. The staff was super friendly and not mention very accommodating. Our room was comfortable and nicely decorated (stayed at the Leopard Lounge) with mid century modern theme. Cool amenities at your finger trips-- from the continental breakfast to happy hour. We certainly plan on returning for another visit to the desert, but most importantly, to stay at one of our new favorite digs.
A Palm Springs Gem - Perfect for Events!
My wife and I recently had our wedding at the Orbit In
& Hideaway resort after extensively researching the
available boutique hotels in Palm Springs, Cathedral
City, and Palm Dessert. Upon visiting the Orbit In,
meeting the new Owners (very very nice and doing a
great job), and then walking over to The Hideaway
resort we were confident that our special weekend
would fit here.
A few highlights:
- Rooms are furnished generously with Eames furniture
and other period related items. We highly recommend
the Rat Pack Suite (102 + 103) for a little extra room
or 110 for privacy.
- Location is perfect.......very near downtown,
however no real noise problems and a great view of the
San Jacinto mountains.
- Orbitini hour: Alberto and his staff are very
accomodating and we found this time (once all our
guests left) a great way to meet cool people.
- Kevin (new owner) very pleasant and receptive to
feedback. The resort bent over backwards to make sure
our guests were happy.
- Use the Orbit In bikes to cruise around the
neighborhood - - so fun
- Have dinner on the strip and bring home extra, its
good to have items to munch on late night
- Consider the Orbit In Hideaway for a night or two if you desire some quiet time
- Look in the mirror first - some of negative reviews I've read seem like those people didnt read the T.A. reviews. This isn't the Four Seasons so don't expect full service :-)
I've read on T.A.
What a place!!!!!!!
Orbit In is one of the hippest and coolest places to stay in P. S. It is in a perfect location for walking, to restaurants, to the town center. The rooms are wonderful, very mid-century modern. The beds are so comfortable. It is a small place with 9 rooms. People who stay there are the happiest and friendliest you will meet. They are so happy to be there. The owners and staff are unbelievable! You don't want to miss Orbitini hour and the delicious Orbitini's! You must stay here, you won't be disappointed, and like us, keep returning!
This was the highlight of our Californian trip.
This was a fantastic hotel and we had a great time here. Kevin and Jinny were excellent hosts, very kind and welcoming. This place is unlike any other hotel you have ever stayed in. As it only has 9 rooms, there is a very social atmosphere. We met some lovely people and we all went out for a great meal together in Palm Springs. The free cocktail hour with the signtaure Orbitini drinks helps break the ice. All round a great place to stay, one of my favourites of all time.
