More about Quality Inn Palm Springs

Comparison Shopping with Online Discounters

by 100ACRE

More and more you can get some fantastic deals for rooms on the Web, but you have to be careful or else you could find yourself out of a lot of money with little recourse.

Refunds

The Problem: Receiving a refund can be difficult. The deeper discount you get, the harder it is to get a refund.

The Solution: Keep printouts of the confirmation number and all transactions, as well as familiarize themselves with the refund policies of the agency and hotel where you reserve.

VizTravel.com spokeman, Dunstan Ireland, says that travelers concerned about recouping their money should consider travel insurance. "It's important to be aware of the circumstances under which the insurance company will help you get a refund," he said. "But if you qualify, they will save you from a major headache."

Properties/Rooms

The Problem: The amenities of the room you booked online, and the hotel itself, are substandard.

The Solution: If you don't like the room you're assigned, request another one. Pronto. And it never hurts to have a backup hotel in mind, particularly for long trips.

Also, the rating systems used by most of the online agencies can be helpful. Travelocity uses AAA ratings and in-house inspectors for some properties.

Secondary sources are usually more objective. Start with guidebooks; the AAA and Mobil guides, which inspect many properties and rate them, are good resources. Fodor's, Frommer's and Lonely Planet often have reliable hotel reviews, too. Check Web sites such as Tripadvisor.com and HotelShark.com, which offer independent reviews by former guests.

Rates

The Problem: After booking, customers sometimes find they could have snagged a cheaper room at the same property from another Web site or directly from the hotel.

The Solution: Always comparison shop before booking. Check directly with the hotel and ask for specials or the cheapest available room. If the hotel is a chain, use both its toll-free number and Web site. Got chutzpah? Connect with a hotel manager or other person of authority and bargain. The site www.biddingfortravel.com, in which travelers say how much they paid for rooms on Priceline, offers a rough guide of how low a hotel might go.

My BF flight booked through Travelocity has problem

by urungrat

Hi all, on October 16 i booked flight to BKK for him depart in Dec from EWR at 1800 USD, he received call and e-mail confirm of flight and charged. Then this week Travelocity staff said his flight never been booked because CO canceled flight to PEK where flight transit there. But it opened same flight in next day but he need to pay 2600 USD for same itinerary.
Is this normal for online booking? and my BF know of flight cancel when he called Travelocity. No one either Airline nor Travelocity shall contact us of change?

I hope things work out for you. Next time, you might want to use a good travel consultant so that you will have someone who can help you face to face.

BEST TRAVEL STORE (airfare)

by kaylen

I found this travel website online and seem to have the cheapest fare from boise Idaho to Malaysia and return from Singapore.Plan to travel march 23rd and return either on June 7 or 14.
Has anyone use it and what are your experience? Are they legitmate? I check with BBB in CA and no trace of them.Their website is bt-store.com.

Did anyone know more websites of better deal beside obitz, expedia and travelocity? Maybe a contact of some travel agent specialize in asia in CA,SFO or seattle.

Thank.

Than you.

Chicago

Any recommendations on hotels in Chicago. Looking to be close to shopping and art galleries. Would like to be walking distance to the waterfront. Looking for 3 or 4 star.

RE: Chicago

This time of year is going to be super expensive for that class of hotel and in that area. I stayed at Holiday-Inn Merchandise Mart Plaza back in the early 90's and they were way too much then and it was Holiday Inn. I would check sites like hotels.com, travelocity, etc and see what the lowest rate for the best hotels are, then call the hotels directly and see if they can beat that price. ;) Hope that helps.

Travel Tips for Palm Springs

The Agua Caliente

by JLBG

The Cahuilla Indians have inhabited the area from Borrego to Riverside for more than 2000 years, an area of about 2,400 square miles. There are 10 reservations in Southern Ca. The band who settled in what is now Palm Springs are the Agua Caliente Indians. Other Cahuilla bands are the Morongo, Los Coyotes, Torres-Martinez, Cabazon and the Santa Rosa.

There may have been as many as 10,000 Cahuillas before contact with the Europeans who in 1862 brought a small pox epidemic. Only about 2,500 survived. Today there are about 290 registered Cahuillas as recorded by the tribal headquarters
The Agua Caliente band in Palm Springs collect Park fees for tourists and hikers to see the beautiful natural Palm Canyon and two other natural springs.

For more on the Agua Caliente band, visit their web site.

There are so many fine...

by JimTammy

There are so many fine restaurants in Palm Springs. Some of our favorites are: The Falls Prime Steakhouse and Martini Bar is a see and be seen high end steak place with great food and better martinis with hundreds to choose from. Johannes, is a friendly european bistro where you watch Chef Johannes prepare his exquisite cuisine while sipping wine from the extensive list. At The Falls an Appletini and definitely the applewood smoked primerib, served tableside.
At Johannes any seafood is scrumptious which changes by availability or the Veal Chop. Again you can't go wrong.

Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

by SurfaceTravel

This is an impressive steep ride up beside a rock face with an amazing view of Palm Springs down in the valley. There are 87 kms of hiking trails at the top of the tramway in Mount San Jacinto State Park, or you can just take a short 20-minute walk around the edge of the mountain to take in the views. It is refreshingly cool up top. There are many other activities available on their web site, listed below.

Hours of operation: every half hour from 10:00 Mon-Fri; 08:00 weekends and holidays. Last car up is 20:00 with the last car down at 21:45. Note: "The Tramway is currently closed for Annual Maintenance. Please check back for reopening date". This is as of 19-Sep-06.

Tram Prices: adults $21.95, children $14.95, seniors (60+) $19.95, children under 3 years old are free but require a boarding pass.

Modernism - Las Palmas Estates

by trvlrtom

Palm Springs is famous for its Desert Modernism, and perhaps the best place to get a quick look at several homes of this style is the Las Palmas Estates neighborhood. Most of the homes were built from 1958 - 1962 by Alexander Construction Company, and included homes designed by William Krisel and Charles DuBois, two noteworthy architects of the era. At the time many famous celebrities (Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe etc.) all passed through; it was known as the Beverly Hills of Palm Springs. It is a small neighborhood but packed with fascinating homes and landscaped yards. It's close and easy to find - just north of downtown.
