By car, with patience.

By car with a lot of patience!! The rumors you have heard are true. Traffic in Southern California is horrendous.
Pasadena has a nice downtown area where you can actually park and walk around. It is also a short cab ride from Pasadena Hotels. If you intend to explore other areas in Los Angeles, the coast or otherwise, you will need a car as these other areas are pretty far from Pasadena.

Glendale Hotel closer to a Gold Line stop
by EPTraveler
We have tickets for the 2008 Rose Parade and are struggling with the rates and availablity for lodging in Pasadena. Could anyone recommend a moderately priced hotel in Glendale that is a short cab ride to one of the Gold Line stops.
Thank you VT'rs
Joel

Did you look at Arcadia? Short cab ride to Gold Line at Sierra Madre Blvd. Santa Anita Inn runs about $70.00 a night, Hampton Inn around $109.00 per night, Embassy Suites (which includes breakfast and Happy Hour, which I recommend) at $239.00 per night. Also call Pasadena Visitor's Bureau (they have a website) for other suggestions.

Sorry, but the Gold line really will not help you with lodging in Glendale.
Consider a map of the Pasadena/Glendale area. Now imagine a clock with the Rose Bowl parade site in the middle of it. You will find that one end of the Gold line is at 6:00, and the other about 2:00. Glendale is about 9:00.

No availability in Arcadia unfortunately. We need lodging for 12/31 - 1/2/08. The hotels in Arcadia are either full or have 3 night minimums, we only need two nights. I guess the alternative would be to stay in LA and come into Pasadena from that direction. Although, I have been told to avoid this because of the enormous number of people going to the parade from that direction. I was hoping to find a place in Glendale that was maybe 10 - 15 minute cab ride from the hotel to a gold line stop. It sounds like this may not be possible. I need to get from “9” to “6” on the Rose Parade Clock!!
We will keep checking around. I called the Tourist Bureau and didn’t have much luck with them.
Thanks again!

GLENDORA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE....
by Routeman
GLENDORA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. Founded in 1887, Glendora was officially incorporated as a city in 1911. The city remained a small citrus-producing community until the late 1950s, when agriculture gave way to large scale residential development. Today, over 50,000 residents enjoy Glendora's excellent public and private schools, lush parks, comprehensive community services and one of the lowest crime rates in the nation.
Post Office
by GracesTrips
The City of Pasadena is great for preserving original, historic architecture. The post office is such a building. Located at 281 E. Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91101 right across the street from the Paseo Colorado Shopping Center. Hours are Monday thru Friday 9am - 5pm, Saturday 9am-2pm.
Huntington Gardens
by GenuinelyCurious
This sprawling grounds of the former robber baron is a testimony to a forgotten era of opulence and a love of classic elegance.
Huntington built the house to lure his wife to the wild west. It took 12 years to build and he only lived in it 6 years until his death. Wifey wasn't thrilled.
But you will be. There are many gardens with plants from around the globe, classic paintings like "blue boy," notable architecture and some pretty good eats.

Tasty Cupcakes from Dot's Cupcakes
by GracesTrips
Located in Old Town Pasadena but not on Colorado Blvd. Off by it's lonesome on Fair Oaks. These were very tasty and moist. US$3.00 for regular size cupcakes and US$1.50 for the mini cupcakes. Deeeelicious! Worth the stop.
21 N. Fair Oaks, Pasadena, CA 91103
There is also one on Arroyo Parkway south of Old Town, 400 S. Arroyo Parkway, Pasadena, Ca 91105
