Restaurant recommendations in Pasadena area?
by karenincalifornia
I lived in Pasadena until 1997 and will be returning with my family for a short visit in a couple of weeks after being away for 9 years. I'm no longer familiar with the restaurant scene. We want to eat dinner a couple of nights in Pasadena (or South Pas). What is your favorite restaurant in either city?

Hi! Wait until you see the action in Old Town now! It's really a hot spot--check out the action! How about DeLacey's in Old Town? The Raymond? My preferance is the Arroyo Chop House or Parkway Bar and Grill on Arroyo Parkway--away from the Old Town madness! Julienne's in the Mission District of San marino, not far from South Pas, is nice, or how about the Grill at the Ritz?

Monty's still has excellent ribs, steaks and cocktails.
Mijare's patio is still beautiful on summer nights.
Ruth's Chris has opened up and I've heard it maintains their standard.
Travel Tips for Pasadena
Brazilian soccer fans are fantastic!
by Yubert
Here I am posing with a fan of the Brazilian soccer team at the 1994 World Cup Finals. Don't recall who won but it must have been the Brazilians because this fan was happy.
I didn't pay attention to the score because I didn't know the game. Also, the antics of the crowd was more entertaining than the players on the field.
By the way, those glasses I'm wearing were in fashion back then.
The Gabrielino Indians once...
by Routeman
The Gabrielino Indians once inhabited the land that is now known as the city of Duarte ( Pop. ca. 22.000 ). In 1841, the governor of Alta, CA granted to ex-Mexican corporal Andres Duarte and his wife nearly 7,000 acres of prime land in the upper San Gabriel Valley. He named the place Rancho Azusa de Duarte.
Steep Hiking Path just above Pasadena
by GracesTrips
This hiking path is actually located in Altadena, just north of Pasadena. Park on the street in this residential area at Loma Alta Drive and Lake Avenue. There is a metal gate supported by a rock wall. You'll walk past the gate along a deteriorated rocky road. Continue east on this path. You'll come to a dirt path, you'll walk slight left then right again. You'll see a 3-4 foot wide dirt path going north and you'll proceed up this path to Echo Mountain. Approximately 5 miles round trip. See photos posted of the remnants of the "White City" built back in the 1800's at the top of Echo Mountain on my Echo Mountain Travelogue. It is a popular hiking path so quite a few people are up here but it's one of the more moderate hiking paths that won't wear you out too much.
Travel with Dogs
by ideabuzz
Traveling with Dogs is a challenge and there are a few good restaurants you can eat at with your dog in tow. This must be out doors by law but Wolfe Burger on Lake Ave North of Colorado has a patio in the back that is very nice (less traffic noise). I have even brought my dog into the indoor patio on a rainy day with no hassles). Burger Continental on South Lake just north of California has a few tables on the sidewalk and is avery good deal. They have mediteranean fare, burgers, and a nice salad bar with most orders.
There is also an off leash, fenced dog park on East Orange Grove Blvd. East of Sierra Madre Blvd. The park is divided in two for large and smalldogs.
Dogs are welcome on the arroyo trails but must be on leash due to wildlife and horses.
Drive Around Bungalow Heaven
by pigletsmom
Bungalow Heaven is dotted with lovely turn of the century Craftsman bungalows. These homes create a lovely old fashioned neighborhood with loads of charm and style. They were constructed of prefabricated kit homes at the time, but now compared to modern construction have many wonderful details. Design elements that typify the style are low pitched roofs, wood shingles, and porches. Craftsman style tried to create a more natural environment. This movement was a backlash to both the Victorian era and the Industrial revolution and began in England. Popular from about 1900-1920 in the United States. The term bungalow is an Indian word meaning hut or small house.
