Not up to Westin Standards

The entrance to this Westin is about the largest highlight of my stay to this Pasadena hotel. I was not impressed at all with the staff, check-in, room, or valet service here.

My first impression was from the GPS system that I use in the Hertz rent-a-car (a must for the business traveler). It did not have the Westin Pasadena in it, because this hotel used to be a Doubletree... so if you are using any GPS navigation, plug in the doubletree if you want to get there.

The valet parking was very slow, and did not have a single member that spoke English. The check-in staff was slow, and actually took 3 phone calls to them until they finally could explain how to gain access to their internet. (Tip: If you are checking in, get a username and access code, since there is no way to do it from your room).

The bed was the saving grace for this hotel, as it is a Westin Heavenly bed. I was out by page 2... (their commercial on how fast it is to fall asleep).

Also, make sure you have your gum or water when you arrive... 5 sticks of sugarfree gum and a bottle of water came to $6!!

Elegantly California Casual

Water, water everywhere! A tiled mural fountain greets guests at the main entrance, a lion fountain burbles in the lobby. The courtyard cafe echoes with the splashing and dancing waters of Plaza las Fuentes. With interior stucco and tilework faintly reminiscent of a Moorish palace, the hotel is bright and spacious.

Rooms are airy and comfortably furnished in a pleasing, contemporary style. Here, the shuttered windows actually open! Amenities include in-room Starbucks coffee, turn-down service with nightime chocolates on your pillow and terry robes for evening relaxation. Bathrooms are spa-like.

Staff are friendly and very service-oriented. When faced with a glitch with our reservation, the front desk promptly corrected it.

Unique Quality: The hotel shares the Plaza las Fuentes with several other buildings.

Although the Westin's courtyard cafe was charming, less expensive food options were available across the Plaza, at California Pizza Kitchen and McCormick & Schmicks Seafood Restaurant. All three offered good dining and great service.

For 3 people the room rate was $180.00.
Underground parking with unlimited access added $6.00 to the daily bill. It was convenient and well worth the cost.

More about Westin Pasadena

Great hotel all around

by TripAdvisor Member GR70

We have stayed at the Westin Pasadena several times and have had excellent experiences each time. As stated by other reviewers, the staff are very courteous and professional. Rooms are extremely comfortable, but can be a bit small. Try to get a corner king. We managed to get one of these rooms at no extra charge during one of our stays, and it was probably 50% larger than a standard room. Although we've had few meals at the hotel, our limited experiences have only been good. The restaurant and lobby area are very comfortable and pleasant. The setting adjacent to tons of convenient shops and restaurants and generally central location can't be beat. We have made staying at this hotel somewhat of a tradition during visits with family in the area, and look forward to our next trip.

Not my favorite

I was dissapointed with the Westin Pasadena. Here are my Pros and Cons.

Pros: Parking fee is only 6.00!! Can't get better than that, Beautifull lobby, and great location. The staff was very nice!!

Cons: The rooms are so small, its uncomfortable. I am very suprised they gave me the room they did because I am a travel agent, but looks like they didn't care. The carpet wasn't fully cleaned, the bathroom toilet seat was erroded, the walls had dirt marks everywhere, and the light switch was broken. There was no mini-bar, and to make coffee you had to squeeze in between the bed and the closet, to get to the coffee pot. The bed was small and uncomfortable for two people.

My friends had the corner suite with a king size bed which was much better than the room I got. So if you can get that room for the regular room rates you would be satisfied.

If I had actually payed $200+ for this hotel room I would have cried myself to sleep. Great value if you can get a room for $90 plus tax per night.

Peaceful and wonderfule

We had a wonderful time. The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Check in was easy and fast, they even allowed us a early check in on Labor Day weekend. The rooms are not huge, but we had ample space. The rooms are nicely decorated and of course the beds are amazingly comfortable. We traveled with our 3 children and the 10 year let us know that this hotel had the best beds ever! The pool is small, but having three children it made it easy to keep them in constant view. The pool service was fast and the burgers were delicious. The walk to old town pasadena is a few blocks away, but we had perfect weather and it was a lovely walk, gave us a chance to walk off dinner. There are two movie theatres close by and the open air mall is beautiful, most of the stores are open now. Again we had a great time and would highly reccomend this hotel to any traveler.

Nice Hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed at this hotel in November, 2005. The hotel room was paid by the company. For $200 per night, it's a nice hotel. The hotel is walking distance to Paseo Colorado, Gold Line Metro and Old Pasadena. The local restaurants include California Pizza Kitchen, Cheesecake Factory, P.F. Chiangs, etc.

The room included a very comfortable bed with down comforters. The closet was small. The hotel had all the amenities that you would expect at this type of hotel.

We usually stay at budget hotels, so I don't know if I would personally pay $200 per night to stay at this hotel. I probably would stay at a lower price hotel and use the money saved for other trip expenses.

not bad for Pasadena

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed here for one night in late December. The lobby area is pretty nice and clean. We stayed on the starwood member floor. The view of the mountain was fantastic.

Bed: just plain awesome. the sheets are clean.

Shower: a little clogged.

Lighting: needs to be updated. flourescent lamps suck.

Carpet: a little soiled here and there, but clean overall.

Concierge: quite helpful and nice.

Service: i asked for several items (i.e. champagne glass, wine glass) and they were delivered promptly.

Just OK

I stayed here December 25-29 with my husband and young children.
I am not quite sure where to start with this review, so I will just dive in...Great beds, very comfy, but a little on the small side. Tasteful decor, perhaps a little too business oriented. Good coffee, which was important to us and we had just spent 3 days at Disney, where good coffee is scarce! Nice bathrooms with a great dual showerhead! Overall, the service was great except for housekeeping. It was really quite strange...the housekeeper didn't leave fresh soap?/shampoo after the first and then second night. I called to complain and the manager was very apologetic and insisted on paying for breakfast the following morning. We accepted the breakfast and I assumed we would get fresh soap from the housekeeper the next day. Well, the breakfast was great, but the housekeeper never left a fresh bar of soap or shampoo the entire time we were there! For some reason that's a big deal to me. I should mention that we tip housekeepers daily. I don't know if we had a passive-aggressive housekeeper or if that is their policy.
I think this hotel is best suited for the business traveler or a couple. The rooms are nicely decorated but a little cold. I should also mention valet parking...the attendant were the best!

Perfect Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member Laderatraveler

My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the Westin for one night. This is the perfect hotel, as its in the perfect location, very clean, helpful staff, and free shuttle. The hotel is walking distance to all shops, food, and entertainment. We ate at Arroyo Chop House, which was pretty good. Overall great hotel!

Nice Hotel, but lock up your things

by TripAdvisor Member Wanderer909

Let me just say that overall, this is a very nice hotel, and I would recommend it to anyone. We stayed there for 4 days. The room was spacious, the fixtures looked upgraded, the King Sized "Heavenly Bed" was wonderful, location of the hotel was great, parking fee of $6 was great, and the front desk staff were friendly, efficient and accomodating. We were able to check in 3 hours before the official check in time, which was nice. There are also 2 restaurants on the property.

Based on the above, I would have rated this hotel "Above average". However, I had an unfortunate experience with "housekeeping". And, it just might be isolated with the housekeeping person that cleaned my room/floor. I had several incidents over my 4 day stay where my personal things were looked through and moved. I don't like to tempt fate with my personal belongings. So, I make it a point to lock up things of value in my suitcase, make sure the zipper pockets are zipped, and put the suitcases away in the closet with the closet door closed. When we returned to the room one evening, I was not happy to find the closet door left opened, and the zipper pockets unzipped. Nothing was taken, but it was obvious that someone tried to go through my suitcase. We also noticed that the dresser drawers had been opened. We had put some clothing items in the drawers. I also specifically put a book in the nightstand drawer, and it was moved and put on top of the nightstand. The thing that bothered me the most, was when I bought some gourmet dog treats as a gift. I put it in a drawer, because I thought, who would want or open up dog treats? Wrong. It was in a brown paper bag and sealed with a sticker. I found that seal had been broken and the bag crumpled. Nice.

I realize that even in the nicest hotels, there is no guarantee that your things will not be looked at, or in the worst case scenario, taken....if they are left out. The housekeeping person was not in the least bit sly about it, they were blatant.

I did not report any of these incidents because nothing was actually taken. But, when we were checking out, I was asked how my stay was. I told them about the things being moved and looked at. The front desk person said they were sorry, and that they would have a chat with the housekeeping supervisor. For my trouble, they credited me with half of 1 night's stay. I was happy with that. Excluding the housekeeping incidents, I had a nice stay. I would stay here again and recommend this hotel. But, I suggest that everyone be reminded to put things of value away, and if possible, locked up in your suitcase.

I want to add, that a family member also stayed at the same hotel during the same 4 days, but on a different floor. They didn't have any problems at all and were very happy with their stay and the hotel.
