More about Mission Inn of Pismo Beach
relaxing after a long drive
We, a family of two adults and two teenagers, stayed here for an overnight stop on our way up the west coast. If you are looking for a beach side hotel, then this is not for you as the sea is about two miles away. Don't be fooled by the 'oceanview' that is offered, as it is so far in the distance you can hardly see it. Having said that, our room was spacious and very clean. The bathroom was great and we had internet connection. The pool and juccuzi were lovely and with the soft background music playing, it made for a very restful afternoon after a long drive. Breakfast at the hotel was very good. There was a huge choice incuding eggs, bacon, sausage etc. You can help yourself to coffee throughout the day and in the evening we were offered complimentary drinks in the reception area. If you want to eat out in the evening, we would highly recommend Giuseppe's. It very popular with the locals so you may have to wait for a table, but if you do, sit in the bar and get the barman to make you a cocktail...........fantastic! (We got reception to order us a taxi, only $7 and meant you didn't have to worry about driving) They don't mind the children going either and the food was lovely.
Ahhhh. Felt like luxury at a discount price.
This is a lovely property. We stayed here one night on the way from San Francisco to LA. Found through tripadvisor, and booking directly through Mission Inn's website got a special summer rate of $129/night + taxes. No, it's not on the beach, but so what? We drove down to the beach the night we were there and walked on the sand, found a good place to eat dinner (Mo's BBQ) and watched the sunset over the ocean. Bonus, there were tons of surfers out, and we watched them for quite a while. A walk on the pier and we were ready to go back to the Inn. If you want to hang out on the beach, you could easily pack your car for a day there.
Mission Inn has all the comforts and ammenities. We needed to do laundry -- and there is a guest laundry on site. Travelers beware: a single use box of Tide costs $3 in the hotel gift shop, so stop at the supermarket before you do your laundry. A wash load or dry load is $1 in quarters, which are available at the front desk.
Workout facility was much needed . Towels, water, 2 treadmills, 1 recumbant cycle and an eliptical trainer with a television. Excellent workout room for a hotel.
The double queen room was HUGE. Couch, chair, end tables, desk, armoire with television and roomy space around the 2 beds and nighttable. Window opens, good thermostat / fan controls for temp control in room. Good full length mirror in the main room (never seems to be in the right place in a hotel -- this one it is!). Refrig, micro and room safe stashed in the armoire. Very handy!
Huge closet with hangers you can remove from the rod (wooden, and many with pants clips). Vanity with sink separate from the tub / toilet / pedestal sink in the bathroom. Excellent for couples getting ready in the morning ... or a teen who needs mirror time while mom and dad just need to brush teeth! Great towels.
Most fantastic breakfast included ... went down before breakfast and brought coffee back to the room (and read the complimentary USA Today I picked up at the front desk) while waiting for the rest of the family to get up. Husband took advantage of the complimentary cocktail (tap beer or house wines) in the lounge (2 drinks per adult come with the room) after we returned from dinner out.
Mission Inn was a great stay. Highly recommend.
Mixed Feelings About This Hotel!
I decided to stay at this hotel based on reviews posted from previous guests. I wish I had conducted more research, as I was quite disappointed when I arrived. The hotel is definitely NOT located near the beach. I booked an "oceanview" room, but had to squint to see the ocean. I must admit, however, that the hotel and the room we were given (on the 3rd floor) were beautiful. (From our room, we overlooked the pool and the busy highway. I was not pleased, as I was expecting to overlook the ocean.) The personnel at the front desk were less than enthusiastic to assist me. When it came time to check out, there were two young ladies at the desk, and there were no other guests. Neither lady was eager to know why I was there...almost as if I were interrupting their morning. If you want an OCEANVIEW room, don't stay here. If you want a BEAUTIFUL room, this is the place for you!
Magnifico - a jewel of Pismo Beach
We stayed at this hotel for a night each way on a drive between LA and San Francisco. We have small children so needed to stop over as the drive from LA would have been too long to do in a day especially as we had a number of places to visit on the way including the usual tourist targets like Cambria/Big Sur etc!
The hotel has a fabulous location - it overlooks the 101 yet traffic noise was minimal. It is also located on a hill in a pretty good residential area. It is NOT near the beach which is a short drive away. Nearby are some eateries which we felt were so-so. There is a Prime Outlets mall only two minutes away by car which you could walk to if you wanted. We did pretty much every shop in that mall and came to the conclusion that it was probably the worst outlet mall we had been to.
The hotel itself has a reasonably large lobby for the size of property. The front desk staff are very helpful and the rooms are fabulous. A couple of minor things:
1. The lifts are extremely slow - you would be just as well using the stairs than waiting for the lift.
2. The in-room internet was down on both nights we were there. I find it difficult to believe that this could be down to a technical problem when the 2 nights were a week apart. We booked with the hotel directly over the internet and paid the promo rate. I'd bet that the reason we didn't have in-room internet was because we had maybe paid the cheapest rate - however, this is only conjecture and a minor point.
As far as suites rooms go this hotel has some good size rooms. The beds were extremely comfortable - there was plenty of space to store luggage and the finish of the room itself from the quality of the linens to the furniture gave the impression of a much more expensive hotel. The bathroom was stocked with better quality items than you would expect - the bathroom itself was also a good size and the fixtures and fittings were of a high standard. A note for one of the previous TA reviewers - you CAN close the curtains - they are located windowside behind the net curtains. The ones that you can't close are actually on the room side.
Breakfast was included in our rate and was very good for a buffet breakfast. Eggs/bacon/waffles/sausages/toast/cereals/fruit/yoghurts etc. One thing I couldn't work out was why they had a member of staff standing by the bacon tray giving out bacon strips to the guests - it was almost as if people felt they were going to be rationed as to how many they could have!! Still - very good breakfast.
They also have two pools, a jacuzzi style warm pool and a larger (but still small) regular swimming pool. Both were well used by other guests most of the time we were there although we did a chance to go in them for a short time.
If you're looking for a place to stop over in Pismo Beach this must surely be one of the best places you could stay over at. The only thing that precludes me from giving this hotel 5 stars in all categories is the lack of internet in the room which was important to me. However to other travellers this may not be such a big issue in which case it fully deserves it's 5 stars.
If we ever find ourselves needing to stay in this area or nearby again this is the first place we would call.
My friend and I spent the night here on our 'one day' vacation. Everything about the hotel exceeded our expectations. I was initally disappointed to find it was so far from the ocean but that quickly faded as we pulled into the parking lot. The handsome hotel is located next to a nice residential neighborhood and though it is fairly close to the highway, we never heard it, not even in the evening as we relaxed in the jacuzzi under the stars. The inside was as handsome as the outside and I could tell we were going to be spoiled by our stay here. We were not disappointed in this. The staff was gracious and accomodating and the amenities were amazing. The bed was so comfortable I hated to leave it but a shower in the marble-lined bathtub with the luxurious shampoos and lotions beckoned me. I would have relaxed on the comfortable couch afterwards but there was a delicious buffet breakfast to partake of. We both were reluctant to leave. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Spotless and comfortable
The Mission Inn was a great relief for our family of four after a day of driving down the coast from San Francisco. When we arrived we were hoping for a clean quiet room with comfortable beds and that is exactly what we got! The complimentary 2 glasses of wine were a nice surprise, and the breakfast buffet was awesome! This is a great place to stop if you are driving from San Fran to LA. Would highly recommend it!
Excellent in every way!
We were so lucky to find the Mission Inn of Pismo Beach from an online search. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. Our room was wonderful with two comfortable queen beds, the bathroom was amazing with a awesome shower head and gorgeous tile floor, and the vanity had a granite countertop. You are given two complimentary drink tickets when you check to enjoy in the lounge for wine or beer. The lounge was so relaxing with huge windows to take in the great view. Kolene our bartender was friendly and such an asset to the atmosphere. And at last, we must compliment the breakfast buffet included in our stay. Warm, fresh and hearty to say the least! Not just continental style, but our breakfast included eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage, waffles, cereal, fruit, toast, three juices, milk, coffee, and probably more I can't remember! Please do not change a thing Mission Inn, you are doing it right!
Had a great time - highly recommend Mission Inn
We stayed at the Mission Inn for three nights in September, and had a lovely time. The staff was excellent, the breakfast was hot and plentiful, the two drink per person happy hour was quite nice, accompanied by different munchies each night (mixed nuts, antipasto, popcorn etc.). We booked directly with the hotel, and got a better price than expedia or the rest, with no cancellation fees or worries. Hotel has washer/dryers for guest (nice touch), a work out room, a good sized jacuzzi, a nice shallow pool (not too good for lap swimmers), fresh landscaping, and all sorts of nice touches (microwave, safe, refrigerator). Bed were comfortable, faciliites were clean, and quiet. Although along the inland sixde of 101, near the Five Cities Drive Exit, the windows/pation doors kept out all freeway noise. Would recommend rooms on floor two with outside patios facing the pool area. The lemon bars and brownies at the front desk were yummy, and a nice touch.
Real nice hotel-no view
Stayed a Saturday night here. The whole hotel was really nice. Room had a great king bed, flatscreen w/ several channels of HBO and all 4 ESPN channels (guys, you know what I'm talking about). Room was really spaciuos with a separat sitting area with another flatscreen and desk. Only problem with the room is that the water from the faucets tasted pretty funky.
This hotel is just as high quality as the other resort hotels in Pismo and Shell, but since it is on the east side fot he freeway on a hill instead of right on the water, it is significantly cheaper. The 2 drink tickets per person for the lounge and the free breakfast make it even more affordable. I would definitely stay here again.
