Point Reyes National Seashore

There is a lot to be said about this piece of land. There is lots to explore, few remote beaches, some hiking trails, viewing of the San Andreas Fault and the effect earthquakes has on the land, you name it. The peninsula has 2 hostel I believe, so nice and cheap accomodation. There are a lot of historical farmlands, all named by letters like Farm E, farm D.... etc... On my way back from the Lighthouse I could see a cluster of people around one of the farms, they all had binoculars and watching something. Birdwatchers, I thought. So I stopped and asked them what was so interresting. Well it happened that they were watching a cow giving birth!!! There was a small fenced area that I called the maternity center, where a few cows that appeared to be pregnant or newly mamma, and one of them was almost ready to give birth!!!! So much for bird watching uh?

Mashine room at lighthouse

by gubbi1

Beside the lighthouse you can find another building housing the mashines to generate the electricity needed to run the lighthouse. As these are not used anymore you can have a look at them. Also some horns which were used to warn the ships (useful when there is fog) can be seen here. It is not extremly impressive but worth just to have a look.

Hiking along the Coast Trail

by jessicadf

Isn't it just a gorgeous day? Who would have guessed that it was foggy, a little gloomy and overcast less than 24 hours before? This is the beauty and uncertainty of life along the Pacific Coastline.

Beach scene: Algae

by jessicadf

Walking along, we came across this long stretch of algae lining the crevasse of a long row of rocks. I'm guessing we were below the tide line, while the tide was still out. Isn't that a great shade of green?
