This is the largest outdoor layout in the US for Model Trains. They open it on special occassions. This time was the Train Expo. They also open it for the LA fair.

Drag Racing

Drag racing is an amazingly popular event! Tons and tons of people come from all over, even from other states just to be a spectator at this event. In Pomona, the racing season starts and ends here. Tickets cost $48-$50 per adult depending if it's Saturday or Sunday. Thursday and Friday may be alot less expensive because no actual racing is done, just qualifying. The best part is when the Funnycars and Top Fuel go down the track. The roar of the engines vibrate your entire body and if you're standing at the fence, you can even feel the heat of the cars as they go by. Racing is at the Pomona Fairplex.

Cuban Food, Great Ambience!

This is an upscale Cuban restaurant dining experience located on a hillside which provides some very nice views very close to the Pomona Fairplex. The entry to the restaurant is quite impressive with water features and a Koi pond. Two large, beautiful parrots are also seen as you walk towards the doorway of the restaurant. Try to get a table by the window, the views are quite nice. A wedding was being held below us in the same restaurant on this day. We started with some empanada appetizers. I ordered the halibut which was cook very nicely served with yucca and plantains. Everything was delicious. My daughter had the shrimp, she shared one with me, it was very good slightly buttery. My boyfriend ordered the a mix grill kind of dish with lots of meat. Sausage, chicken, steak which came on two plates with his rice and vegetables. We brought our own bottle of wine for a $10 corkage fee. It was plenty of food and quite enjoyable.

We did not stay too long but I believe there is live entertainment and dancing in the latter part of the evening.

If you look on the website for up coming events, they have a model train show about 2-3 x's a year. And they open the out door layout on special occassions such as these. The admittance into the outdoor layout is usally free with a purchase of the exhibit you are there to see.
