Travel Tips for Port Hueneme
Small, beach community atmosphere (22,000 pop).
by HARBORDAYS
The city owned Beach and fishing pier are great! Bar-B-Q on the beach, swim, surf. Nice sea food restraunt (Andy's) on the beach. Lighthouse (c1941 - w/lens from c1874 light) and CIMRI (Channel Islands Marine Research Institute) at "Point Hueneme". (Subject to security level).
If you do get tired of the beach, there are many other things to see and do in the surrounding communities, such as: the Navy SeaBee Museum is a must!, The surrounding cities of Camarillo (which has a very large factory outlet), Ventura (with it's fabled Main Street and Antique shops, and the Ventura Spanish Mission & Museum). Fine eating abounds, and if all of that isn't enough we go to Los Angeles... 50 miles south!
Check the Harbor Days Website at www.harbordays.org for details and a printable color handbill.

AGBAT's new Port Hueneme Page
by AGBAT
Port Hueneme is home of the Navy Combat Engineer Battalions (SeaBees) and is the port used for most of the new cars that arrive from overseas to the west coast. The town is primarily the Naval Base and a small community around the base, all of which is enclosed in turn by Oxnard, except on the ocean side. Due to the large auto trucking/rail business, produce farming and the Navy base, the town caters to a transient population. Lots of rentals, fast food, small shops, and easy parking. The beach is never crowded, in spite of having some very good surf and facilities. The pictures are a map of the area, and the stretch of beach south of the pier.
