Walking around the city...

by photochaser

Walking around the city looking at all the wonderful historic houses and talking to all the nice people that live here. I have lived in Redlands for 8yrs and can't think of another city that makes you feel so at home. The people are nice, the area is clean and safe. It just feels good to live in a 'city' that feels more like a town.

chaistarr's new Redlands Page

Redlands is about 1.5 hours east of LA on the 10 freeway (which goes from cali to florida!) it has much rich history as an orange packing place ( i think the biggest navel orange producer in the usa, once!)and THE place of rich people to go (back in the 1800-1940 it was the rich resort). It has much history which can be seen in the homes. Alot of homes are historical so they HAVE to be preserved which I like.

Its weird how Redands works. People want a mall, airport, mega-hotel, whatever progress brings. But the powerful people in redlands want to keep Redlands unique- to keep it as it was many years ago while still embracing modern times. Redlands is a hypocrite in itself. So we dont really have a mall but we have redlands bowl for cultural venues like jazz concerts. the town is owned by old people, but full of college kids. The country club attracts multi millionaries in mansions that are hidden from the public eye, while the "northside" is full of dilapidated homes, "skid row" and alot of ethnicities. We have an interstate freeway, and cobblestone roads.
interesting site:

"market night"

the place to see and be seen! good luck navigating traffic to get there! Thursdays 6-9pm all year long, open air street market with music performers, food stands, booths to buy any weird gift or normal gift, and farmers produce.

you might see an aqueduct/creek in redlands. it was built by the indians i think, about 100 years ago. its caled the zanja, but we say it "zane-key".

"an average of 143 sunny days a year"

i live in cali. i think my cali page has info on redlands so do please visit it.
this photo is of the mountains above redlands, alot of people rock climb at this spot and my dad loved to camp here.

*** Redlands is "affectionatly" called "deadlands" by the under-30 crowd. Well considering it is in southern California and is a college town, yeah, its pretty darn dull. but, i like its slower pace but metro feel.
