Travel Tips for Redondo Beach
Ice Skate next to the Pacific Ocean this winter
My jaw dropped when I heard about this. There is a man made lagoon at Redondo Beach called the Seaside Lagoon for kids to play in during the summer. This winter they converted it into an ice rink! No, they didn¡¦t freeze over ocean water (that¡¦s what I thought at first ƒº ) Its super cool and goofy fun. It¡¦s not a very big rink but big enough to be entertained for about 2 hours. There were kids, couples on a dates and groups of friends in their 20s-30s. The novelty of ice skating while having the view of the ocean is well worth the $14 and $4 parking fee.
Catalina Coffee Company
Interesting spot- the locals hang out on the outdoor patio to play chess and drink their favorite coffee or tea or hang inside lounging about the comfy couches reading a book from the library or chatting. To add to all this atmosphere they sell darn good food. The cobb salad is unlike any other with chunks of chicken, caramelized walnuts, apple slices and a honey based dressing- YUMM!
The cold curry sandwich is also a favorite.
June has its gloomy/foggy days but that is the only complaint I have. Lots of eclectic shops and restaurants all along Redondo/Hermosa/ and Manhattan beach. (collectively called South Bay)
The beach is always active and has a nice strip for biking, blading, etc that runs along the coast. The traffic is moderate and people are quite friendly which makes it seem impossible that LA is less than a 20 minute drive away.
A favorite local pass-time
My favorite Yoga studio , which is saying a lot because So. Cal. has tons of them. This studio is tops- excellent vibes. Great Yoga flow set to fun and funky music
