Where to live in Sacramento
by pogiguy
I am planning on moving to Sacramento (from the cold midwest....brrrr) in a few months. I am a 28 year old architectural designer looking to live near a trendy, urban area of Sacramento. Are there any other loceles besides downtown Sacramento to consider? Any suggestions would help greatly.

In the Point West area on Exposition boulevard, there are some nice apartments for young professionals.
You may want to consider the commuting distance to your work. The traffic is really bad at commute time, so it would be best if you lived close to your work.
You can also post your question on www.craigslist.com for the Sacramento area. Lots of young people use this site and you may get better information as to where the "trendy" places are.
Good luck!
Jeannette (from Sacramento).

The late nite talks in our hotel room...the excruciating practices...whining about our coach...the Nike outlet store...getting closer to my teammates...the rowers from Sacramento...the great weather and beautiful scenery...POLAR PAWS ICE CREAM!
During the summer go to Nevada...

During the summer go to Nevada City, it's 1 hour and a half from Sacramento. You should see the Yuba River: it's a relaxing place where you can swim, tan, and it's perfect if you are not too expert with free climbing; you can also hike and explore caves. There is also a nudist area.
If you prefer kayaking and rafting, go to the American River, a little bit more far: my favourite is the South Fork!
Pilothouse Restaurant
by derats about Pilothouse Restaurant
Your visit to the Pilothouse Restaurant will be a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable experience ... well matched to the beautiful paddlewheeler. The oak paneled dining room and lounge offer exquisite examples of fine
craftsmanship and design from a bygone era. The waterfront setting and view are Sacramento's finest. On a nice day, unparalleled outside seating is available on both the Observation and Promenade Decks. Prices on the primarily seafood menu are reasonable so don't let the apparent formality of the stately dining room intimidate you. The service is friendly and professional. The menu includes traditional fine dining fare and creative dishes which pique interest as well as the palate.
Lunch is served Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Dinner is served nightly from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. On Sundays we offer an elaborate champagne buffet brunch from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The best restaurant in old Sac...
by politigal
The best restaurant in old Sac is California Fat's. Despite the funky name (it is owned by an established Sacramento Chinese Family)it offers awesome cuisine in a lovely relaxing atmosphere.
There is a two story waterfall in the back of the restaurant and the full sized palm trees lend to a very pacific-rim kind of feeling. If you're sitting in one of the banquets, you feel as if you could toss open the shutters and look down into the water of the Sacramento river. Walnut Prawns. Cuisine is Asian Fusion.
Riverboat Cruise
by cheap_tourist
You can cruise the Sacramento River on board the "Spirit of Sacramento" or the "Matthew McKinley." These riverboats look like the paddlewheelers that ply America's rivers in the past.
Sightseeing cruises are only $12.50. There are also brunch, lunch, dinner/dance, happy hour, and sunset cruises. Tickets may be purchased online or at the booth at L Street Landing.
