From Sacramento Airport to Greyhound Station
by UkuleleGirl
Aloha,
My mother will be arriving in Sacramento from Honolulu at around 9:30 pm and will need to be at the Greyhound Station (715 L ST SACRAMENTO, CA) to catch a bus that departs at 12:15 am.
Can anyone tell me the best and safest way for her to get there and please suggest any stops she could make to get a warm bite to eat and a snack for her bus ride. She will be going to Redding, CA. a 2 hr 40 min ride.
Thank you in advance!

You might wish to re-work her flight schedule. I don't believe you want her to be attempting to catch a bus at that time of night, especially if she is leaving from a non-24 hour station. She also will basically be arriving in Redding at 3 AM. If someone is meeting her bus, she might be ok. If, however, she is arriving with no transport or lodging, it might be a very long early morning for her. You might also wish to visit the Amtrak, (rail), web site as well as there may also be travel options available for her there. Gary

The last public bus departs the Airport at 10:22pm, you can check this at www.yolobus.com, the closest stop to the Greyhound bus depot is going to be 6th and J Streets 3 blocks from the bus depot. Your safest way to get to the bus depot is going to be by Taxi. The Greyhound depot is not in the nicest area of the downtown core and the bus depot itself is not very nice. As far as finding a decent place to eat near the bus depot at that time of night that is rather doubtful. If she must take the Greyhound at 12:15am, I would suggest that she stay at the airport, get something to eat and then around 11:30pm take a taxi directly to the bus depot.
Travel Tips for Sacramento
Sacramento is a beautiful...
by Kareena
Sacramento is a beautiful city, in general. There are three major rivers here as well as a lot of creeks. In fact, my house is next to Laguna Creek which is charming in it's own way. It's also a wildlife refuge which is neat because there are so many species of birds, insects, and animals living within it's boundries. There are even coyote's living in there and we can hear them every once in a while when they're on the hunt. Our neighborhood animals haven't been harmed. The coyote's are afraid of people so they stay away. Anyway, Sacramento has a lot of at least 4 major shopping malls, lots of parks to picnic in, and historical museums to visit. My fondest memory of Sacramento, was July 16th 1999 when my gorgeous twin boys were born! I couldn't possibly leave them out of the picture! :o)

If you visit Sacramento in the Spring/Summer and have a free evening try catching our AAA Baseball team in action. The ballpark is located just across the Sacramento River off Capitol Avenue in West Sacramento. The prices are reasonable (but food expensive) and you will enjoy an evening out watching the two time champions. Take a sweater or coat because even on the hottest days the ballpark gets a healthy breeze in the evenings and it can get COLD sitting there after the sun goes down. On Saturday nights there is a fabulous fireworks show...not to be missed.
Car, bus, train, boat or...

Car, bus, train, boat or plane. Sacramento is accessable by all forms of transportation. It's a very car friendly city, with pretty good parking. Sacramento is the hub to all five of California's major highways, which means you can get pretty much anywhere from here. The airport is a scant 11 miles from the central city and is generally not overrun with people. The train station is located right outside of Old Sac and is also a little known tourist attraction. The Grayhound bus terminal is located down the street, within walking distance of the train station (if you think 8 blocks is nothing, you're in luck). And Sacramento has always been a river city, so it is also accessable by water.
If you're staying within the central city (Old Sac, Downtown and Midtown) it's pretty easy to get away without having to use a car. Everything is within walking distance. If you are staying outside the central city, a car may come in handy, particularly if you like the freedom of picking up and taking a roadtrip to San Francisco or some other locale. The public transit is decent, but I'm not fond of buses to begin with. Sacramento is also very bike friendly, being a popular place for cyclists to train for races due to it's level terrain.
Awesome seafood in the valley
by spartan about Monterey Bay Canners Seafood Restaurant
The founders of Monterey Bay Canners are dedicated to providing their guests with a great selection of "just caught" freshness. Nothing tastes better than seafood broiled over an open fire (real mesquite wood). It's been a few years since I was here, but they used to serve Monkfish, very good and tasty.
Visit Old Sacramento
by spartan
Today, with 53 historic buildings, Old Sacramento probably has more buildings of historic value condensed into its 28 acres than any area of similar size in the west. Old Sacramento is a National Landmark and a portion is designated as a State Historic Park. Mostly held by private owners, with individual businesses leasing shops and offices, the area has flourished. It is once again a thriving commercial trade center.
The waterfront is enjoying a resurgence with a Public Market, new public docks, excursion cruises, a water taxi, a waterfront hotel and two new restaurants. Some of Sacramento's best restaurants are offered, as are its museums. Old Sacramento attracts over 5 million visitors annually. For locals, it is a favorite getaway and has been voted the best place for a first date. Old Sacramento proudly offers a full year-round event calendar and is home of one of the largest jazz festivals in the world.
