Barbecue Pork Pizza. Just a legend in the Western U.S.?

by CAvenger

In at least the southeast part of the U.S., Pizza Hut serves an awesome type of pizza known as Barbecue Pizza, but unlike most places, it's barbecue pork. Other pizza restaurants in Memphis also had this great pizza. However, when I've called pizza places out here in Sacto, they just act like I'm crazy (Pizza Hut included). Is there a pizza place that serves Barbecue Pork pizza out here? (NOT BBQ CHICKEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11)

Barbecue Pork huh... Lets see... Your right, all I can think of are places with BBchicken. You might try the California Pizza Kitchen in the Arden Mall

They are known to take special orders and considering they serve a pair pizza, I'm sure they won't think your crazy : )

Travel Tips for Sacramento

Once a year on Gold Rush Day,...

by Jeannette1

Once a year on Gold Rush Day, there is a festival in Old Sacramento where you can get an idea of what life was like in the gold rush days. It's usually scheduled at the end of August. For more information, history and calendar of events on Old Sacramento, check Old Sacramento website

The thread that holds together...

by derats

The thread that holds together California's Gold Country is the aptly named Highway 49. It connects the small, quaint and hospitable towns that sprouted up overnight 150 years ago in the foothills east of here. While the Gold Country suffers from the usual tourist traps, its history is also beautifully preserved.
You’ll see everything from the creek where gold was discovered to the trees where speedy justice was handed out. Take time to visit Calaveras County, where Missouri-born journalist Samuel Clemens wrote as Mark Twain; the hamlets of Placerville and Coloma, towns where the saloons once outnumbered residents; and Nevada City, the jewel of the Gold Country, with its old Victorians and perfectly preserved main drag. Many of the old mine towns still exist, and some of the mines can be visited today.

Good Hamburgers

by msaardvark about Fanny Anne's-Old Sacramento

When Old Sacramento first opened Fanny Anne's was one of the "In" places to go. It was owned by a couple of pilots who regularly flew out of Sacramento and they collected all kinds of antique items that they hung from the ceilings, and nailed to the walls or placed wherever they could. The drinks were cheap and the hamburgers good. It still gets busy, especially during the summer months, during tourist season. The hamburgers are much better than the fast food kind and a good value. Fanny Anne's has 3 floors and the basement and there is something to look at on each. Friendly, fast service and very casual. Hamburgers with fries and drinks are all that are served here. They used to make a mean Long Island Iced Tea!

Strauss Festival of Elk Grove

by cyndimarcus

The show features elegantly costumed dancers and professional symphony musicians playing the music of Vienna's "Waltz King," Johann Strauss, Jr. and his family. The setting is a grassy knoll at the edge of a lake surrounding a small island. Warm evening breezes and lights reflected in the water add to the wonderful experience of this free event.

Only the musicians and sound/lighting technicians are paid. All performers and stage crew gladly volunteer their services just for the opportunity to help in the show's success. Dancers begin rehearsals in March and devote hours to practice. Many who have seen the show are surprised that our performers are not professional.

The Strauss Festival of Elk Grove comes to the stage Thursday through Sunday of the last week of July each year.

Sacramento Zoo

by einstein47

This is an excellent zoo in Sacramento, except it's only $9 (for 1 adult and 1 child). Be sure to check out the cheetah (I was surprised... you usually hear of a cheetah running fast, but I saw this one walking at almost the same speed). The animals don't break out almost at all, so yes, mothers of the world, it's very safe.
