Enjoy the outdoors!

A typical day during our stay was to wake up at 6am, go for an hour run, meet the team for practice at 7:30am, row for 2 hours, get breakfast, shower, relax for a bit, shop or tour, lunch, go for another hour-long trail run, mountain bike for an hour, go to another 2 hour practice, have some dinner and ice cream and then chill in our rooms and sometimes throw some ab-work in...yes, we were crazy (not to mention in great shape)--but it was sooo much fun--I felt like a little kid again!
Sacramento Kings and more....
by Sactown916
The Arco Arena is the home of the NBA's Sacramento Kings. It is definitely an experience watching a Kings home game. The Kings easily have the NBA's loudest and most rabid fans. If planning on taking in a Kings game, be sure to plan well ahead of time. Tickets are extremely hard to get due to the quick sellouts. Arco Arena is also home to the WNBA's Sacramento Monarchs.

Sacrametno has a great airport, and I've been to quite a few. Either fly into SMF or fly into Reno Nevada and drive down, it is about a 2 hour drive through the sierra mountains and it is gorgeous.
Rent a car.
Another Great Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Parlour
by WulfstanTraveller about Gunther's
This is another wonderful, old ice cream parlour/soda fountain in Sacramento that makes its own ice cream and has been around for decades. It originally opened in 1940 about 2 blocks from its current location. It moved to the current place in 1949 and the place, inside and out, has barely changed since then, with the same tile, floor, etc., that it had in the old pictures. Ice cream is wonderful and they offer the full range of traditional ice-cream treats as well as sandwiches, etc.
