Is the water taxi, the Otter, currently in operation?

Re: sandrahouston

by puerto_lover

Just out of interest, I did look up some details and it seems that The Otter runs from May through October.

I know what you're talking about - having used the Otter almost every time we visited Sacramento - but I think they're gone. I couldn't find any recent postings on the web, the phone number is disconnected, & their website has disappeared.

I even called the Delta King & asked the young lady at the front desk. She'd never heard of the River Otter or a water taxi. Me thinks there's a void needs filling! :-)

Travel Tips for Sacramento

Go to Old Town...everyone will say that but it is true. Old town is darling with its wooden sidewalks and sleepy river ambiance. It is a bit touristy, but that's why it has a few good resturaunts and fun bars.

http://www.oldsacramento.com/home.html I live in midtown Sacramento, and my fondest memory is sitting outside on my porch on hot summer evenings with my friends, drinking sangria and watching the city sweat.

NBA Basketball at Arco Arena

by Jeannette1

ARCO Arena is the top venue for sports, entertainment and special events in the Greater Sacramento area.
It seats 17,317 people and has many events throughout the year.

If you like basketball, you can attend a game at Arco Arena. The Sacramento Kings are a pretty good basketbal team and it's an exciting game to watch.
The fans at Arco Arena are very loyal. The games are often sold out and the atmosphere is exciting but very, very noisy.

Get your tickets ahead of time or on line if you are willing to pay more. I recommend www.craigslist.com to buy tickets from private parties.

Sacramento is the closest big city to Bullard's Bar, that's why I listed it under Sacto.
To get there from Sacto.:Take I-80 East to HWY49 northeast until you get to a Small town called North San Juan. From there you should see the signs. It will be on your left. My time estimate from Sacramento would be around an hour. From my hometown of Reno, it's about 2-2 1/2 hours.

Cool Bar

by LionPrincess about Changs

I walked into this place and the first thing to grab my eye was the circular bar. The celing was drawn up with material and was all centered around a large wine cooler. The whole effect was inviting and somehow even though the bar is the center of the restaurant, you don't feel like you're on display. When I visited this location I found out that they had made a name for themselves by being a great wine bar (there are not enough liquor permits in the area) before they could serve liquor. They are now in the process of becoming a full service bar. I enjoyed their signature fried banana, dessert egg rolls and pork rolls with plum sauce with a glass of Toasted Head Chardonnay. These two rolls were a really great new take on a traditional menu item. The flavors were diverse and intense and the wine was a nice compliment with crisp, clean flavors.

Old Sacramento has a 'pioneer' feeling. It's not a movie set and you know that you are in a place where things actually happened. The Central Pacific Passenger station was the first California terminal for the transcontinental railroad. Next to it is the California State Railroad Museum which contains 21 restored locomotives and train cars. The history of American railroading is well depicted in the exhibits and film presentations.
