quirky/funky fun in sacramento
by wctryltd
hi all - i'm headed to sacramento in a few weeks (august 21st) and am looking for something off beat and interesting to do - any ideas for interesting food/places? greasy spoon diners to 5 star and between are all fair suggestions...
thanks.

There are some great places to eat in Sacramento. I personally tend towards the Mom & Pop, non-commericial restaurants and we sure do have some great ones! There is Plaza Hof Brau in Sac on Watt Ave/ El Camino Blvd. Great Sandwiches! For Breakfast try Pancake Circus on Broadway. The best burgers are from Squeeze Inn on Fruitridge, it's sure off the beaten past, but you'll never have burgers like these. For entertainment/ good food, try Max's Opera Cafe in the Market Place section of Arden Fair Mall. La Bou is a local cafe chain with excellent sandwiches/soup. On the upscale, one of the best restaurant's in Sac is Biba's. It's Northern Italian. Biba's is always rated as one the best in Sacramento. Well I could write more & let me know if you do want more specific's, because in Sac we sure do have quite a bit to pick from!

I've lived in Sac for 20+ years.
Couple of quirky places:
True love Cafe (go at night and bring your clove cigarettes)- 2406 J st.
Da Big Kahuna (HUGE burgers)- near K st, 1128 8th st.
Sunday Farmer's Market under the freeway-located under Hwy. 50 near 5th st. (organic produce and great people watching)
Flea Market-near Folsom Blvd./Watt Avenue(great book barn & people watching) weekends
Evangeline's (joke gifts & oddities)-Old Sac, 113 K st.
Beer's Books (quirky, good mix, moving to this new location end of Aug.) - 915 S st.
Lucky Cafe (breakfast) -1111 21st st.
Zelda's pizza (dark, deepdish) - 1415 21st st.
American River Raft Rentals (self guided, easy trip starts at Sunrise Bridge & ends at Goethe Park where shuttle picks you up)- (916) 635-6400
Merlino's Freeze- (a MUST, ask any local) - 3200 Folsom Blvd.
You won't go hungry in Sac
