Well, I'm back from California. Boy, I had had a blast, there were many different and exiteing things to do. The variety of settings and surroundings was great.

While my itinerary changed during vacation, it it posted below to give you an outline of what I did.

July 31, 2002 – Fly to Reno, Nevada. Depart BWI at 5:15 PM EST. Arrive in Reno at 9:00 PM WST. Pick up Rental Car from Budget and drive to Carson City (29.6 Mi. appx. 37 Min.). Spend the night at the beautiful Best Western Carson Station Hotel & Casino.

August 1, 2002 – Enjoy the comfort of Carson City. While in Carson City we will visit the capitol and visit nearby Virginia City, which is still reminiscent of the 1870’s. Drive to South Lake Tahoe, California (26.4 Miles from CC appx. 33 Min.). Along the way we will stop at Lake Tahoe State Park along the eastern bank of the Lake. Once in South Lake Tahoe we will stay at the 3 Diamond Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge and Spa, which overlooks the beach. Enjoy the beach and catch up on much needed rest.

August 2, 2002 – Enjoy a morning at the beach before heading on a loop around the beautiful lake. Activities (in no particular order will include) A trip to Squaw Valley, the site of the 1960’s Olympics, D.L. Bliss State Park, Talloc Historic Site, Vikingsholm, and Gatekeeper’s Log Cabin Museum. Once back in South Lake Tahoe enjoy dinner at a fine local restaurant and retire back to the Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge and Spa.

August 3, 2002 – After breakfast and more time on the beach, prepare for the drive to Lee Vining, CA. Along the way we will stop at Topaz Lake for lunch and the see the lake. After this we will proceed to Lee Vining (110.7 Miles from SLT appx. 144 Min.) Once in Lee Vining, check in at the Best Western Lake View Lodge and head to the Mono Basin Nat’l Scenic Area and Mono Lake Tufa State Reserve.

August 4, 2002 – Wake up and prepare to be amazed with a drive through Yosemite Nat’l Park. Wildlife is almost a certainty to be seen along with many beautiful Mountains, Domes, Streams, Rivers, and Tree Groves. Frequent stops will be made along the way to marvel at the beauty of the park. Once through the park we will be lodged at the Holiday Inn Express in Mariposa (96 Miles from LV 177 Min.)

August 5, 2002 – Enjoy more of Yosemite’s splendor and spend an easy day driving to Fresno, California (115.3 Miles from M+ stop in Y 178 Min.) Once in Fresno check into the Sheraton Four Points. After checking in enjoy Fresno State and Forestierre Underground Gardens. Take in dinner at a fine local restaurant and return to the hotel for a swim and peaceful nights rest.

August 6, 2002 – One of the longer days will include an early checkout for a long days drive through splendorous Sequoias, awesome Scenery, and a gorgeous Gorge. These all will be discovered on a drive from Fresno through Sequoia Nat’l Forest, Kings Canyon Nat’l Park and Sequoia Nat’l Park to Visalia, CA. Once in Visalia check into the Radisson Hotel and take in more gorgeous scenery at the nearby Mooney Grove Park. Have a relaxing dinner and settle in for a relaxing evening.

August 7, 2002 – After a relaxing night in Visalia, drive across the center part of the state to near the coast in San Luis Obispo (134.9 Miles from V 163 Min.) Once in San Luis Obispo enjoy the Apple Farm (Food Available) and the Mission San Luis Obispo Tolosa. Drive to nearby Morro Bay for views of the ocean and bay, as well as dinner. Return to San Luis Obispo to check-in to the Holiday Inn.

August 8, 2002 – Take in more magnificent scenery as you ride to Carmel-By-The-Sea (133 Miles from SLO 166 Min.). The drive will take you along the gorgeous Pacific Ocean. Stops along the way and a camera are musts for the drive. Once there enjoy the white, sandy beach and the 17-mile drive (takes you past many world famous golf courses and beautiful scenery). Once finished here take in the many sights of nearby Monterey, such as the Maritime Museum, Laguna Seca, and possibly the aquarium. Return to Carmel-By-The-Sea to check-in to the Best Western Carmel Town House Lodge.

August 9, 2002 – After a brisk walk along the beach prepare to go to San Francisco. Another drive along the beach will offer more spectacular scenery before heading off to the bustling Silicon Valley. Stops along the drive will be a must as will be a camera. After the drive along the ocean, we will head for San José. Once in San Jose, you will take in the Compaq Center and Winchester Mystery House. Continue on to Palo Alto, the home of Stanford University and Hoover Tower. Continue on to Burlingame (105 Miles from CBTS appx. 128 Min.) where we will be lodged for the next two nights at the Marriott. Take a quick ride into the city and retreat back to the hotel for the night.

August 10, 2002 – Get up early and go back into San Francisco to go on a 10:15 ferry to the island of Alcatraz. Once you return you are free to explore the city’s many famous attractions such as the 49-Mile Drive, Coit Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, Ferry Building, Fort Point, Crissy Field, Fort Mason, Octagon House, Wave Organ, Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square, Lombard Street, Chinatown, Nob Hill, Cable Cars, Transamerica Pyramid, Treasure Island, Yerba Buena Island, Pier 7, City Hall, USF, Japan Center, Golden Gate Park, Twin Peaks, Ocean Beach, and the Cliff House.

August 11, 2002 – Enjoy more of San Francisco’s splendor before leaving the town. Drive to nearby Oakland where we will visit Lakeside Park, Skyline Boulevard, and Athletics Stadium. Continue going Northeast to reach Sacramento (99 Miles 113 Minutes). Once in Sacramento, enjoy the sites of the town such as Old Sacramento, Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, State Capital, and the Towe Auto Museum. Once finished enjoy dinner before checking into the Holiday Inn-Capitol Plaza.

August 12, 2002 – Drive to Reno, Nevada (136.5 Miles 130 Minutes), where the trip began, to explore it on your last full day of vacation. Site in Reno you may want to visit are the National Automobile Museum, University of Nevada, and the National Bowling Stadium, where you may want to drop in for a few games. You will be spending the night at the Reno Hilton.

August 13, 2002 – Depart Reno at 6:15 AM, and arrive at BWI at 3:30 PM.
