Need an apartment near the 95825 zip code

by DrummerJeff

Hi,

I may be relocating to Sacramento in October of this year and am looking for a permanent apartment.

I've located a real-estate agency online that have a couple of apartments listed, and I'd like your opinions on these, as well as some other advice as to where I should live. I have absolutely *NO* experience on the West Coast; I've been in New York City for my entire 29 years.

Here are the two apartment locations with rent:

One is near 2000 - 2300 Northview Drive, 95833
$642 / Monthly

Another is around 2000 - 2300 Royale Road, 95815
$900 / Monthly

Are these good areas? By good I mean what type of people live there - Students, Families and single workers? Is it close to any type of public transportation? Are there stores and post offices nearby?

And my secondary question is what are other options that I have? I currently do not drive but if I need to get a car it would take a few months; I'd rather live close enough where there is some type of transit nearby or at least some type of car service.

Thanks so much for all of your help in advance!!!

Jeff

Royale is right by Arden Fair Mall - traffic in & out of your apartment is going to be awful (especially around the holidays). Northview.... you'd have to see the street to be sure but I'm not thinking you want to live there - some parts of that area aren't as safe as one would like. I haven't lived in either of these areas myself... lived in Citrus Heights for a few years.

I would suggest looking around the Sac State area. You can find some reasonable rents (for CA), there are lots of students there, & it's fairly safe. I've had friends who loved living in that area. For a street reference, you're looking for zip code 95825 around University Ave & Howe Ave and preferably on the North side of the American river but not north of Arden Way. There's a Safeway, some restaurants, & banking near there & the bus runs on Howe frequently. Also... if you can find someone to stop by a supermarket & mail you one of the "FOR RENT" magazines, it would probably be a big help figuring out what a "reasonable" rent is & what's available. If there's no one to do this for you, let me know & I can send one when I'm out there at the beginning of September.

It would be very difficult to survive in Sacramento without a car. You may want to consider buying one as soon as you get here.
Areas around CSUS (Cal Sate University) would be good for apartments.

Travel Tips for Sacramento

Don't "diss" the Sacramento Kings.....

by SacNaTive2

That would be my only tip for any visitor coming to Sacramento. The locals really are loyal to their Kings and are pretty passionate about them. That is why they are known to be the LOUDEST fans in the NBA. They have a very loyal following here.

Also.....NEVER...NEVER...NEVER...call Sacramento a "COW TOWN"...there are no cows anywhere near Sacramento. If you want "Cows", go to Bakersfield where the cattle ranches are or go to Vallejo but don't expect to see "COWS" here anytime soon ~ except for Holloween. :-)

The California Vietnam...

by Jeannette1

The California Vietnam Veterans Memorial behind the State Capitol is made of 22 shiny black granite panels, engraved with the 5,822 names of California's dead and missing. Bronze figures depict daily life during the war. It's in a beautiful, peaceful park and the setting is a perfect place to sit down, reflect on this war and remember those who died there.

Down Home, Down-To-Earth, Down-Right Perfect

by BLewJay about Memphis Bar·B·Q Company

Hickory smoke curls for hours in a slow heat around the ribs and pork shoulder, chicken, turkey, and beef until they have just the right texture and tenderness. The restaurant cooks their Bar·B·Q fresh several times a day, so it's always at its peak of flavor and moistness. The meat is basted lightly during cooking and "dry rubbed" to bring out the flavor without smothering it. We decided to eat healthy, so we selected the Bar-B-Q Salad (lettuce, tomato, onions, olives, croutons, cheese and a generous portion of your choice of pulled bbq pork) with honey mustard dressing and homemade bread along with a side of Hush Puppies.

California's Capitol

by einstein47

Okay... It's been a long time since I've seen this, but I think there's a tile floor mural showing the state seal somewhere. Also, as I know it, you can see the state secretary and the state treasurer sometimes, but unfortunately, the Governator is off limits.

Westfield Shopping Town

by Geoff_Wright

When you walk through Old Sacramento, and under Interstate 5, you'll enter into the Downtown Plaza (Westfield Shopping Town), with all its modern shops, including the famous Macey's store. Very trendy, and modern, I should think you can buy just about anything here - at a price!
