New Restaurants and Fresh Fruit?

by Fogey

I'll be spending a couple of days in Sacramento in September. Any new restaurants (Chinese or Japanese especially) I should look into?

Also, I'm looking for reliable places to buy good fresh fruit. I'll be there during the week, so Denio's is out, and I won't have time to scour the countryside for fuit stands. (In my experience, grocery store fruit in Sacramento is about the same as grocery store fruit elsewhere.)

Fresh produce is available at the Certified Farmers Markets in Sacramento. See website for locations and the day each is open.

Thanks for your response! The thing that makes that page especially useful to me is that it lists the markets by the days that they are open. The Cal-Expo and downtown locations on Tuesdays both have potential for me.

Travel Tips for Sacramento

Tour The Memorials at Capitol Park

by mcpangie

They have all kinds of memorials that have been created over the years. The statue comemmorating Spanish War Veterans stood near a little pond with fountain. It was near the Civil War Memorial Grove.

I decided the people of Sacramento must be very civic-minded.

The Crocker Art Museum. It's...

The Crocker Art Museum. It's not exactly a secret, but many people overlook the Crocker because it's very nature suggests it would be boring. Wrong! The Crocker is a fantastic place to relax and enjoy the history of Sacramento in a gorgeous old Victorian mansion. My favorite is the ballroom.

Great Beer and Burgers

by Rixie about Woody's Grill & Bar

When I went to Sacramento to take a friend to lunch for her birthday, she suggested Woody's, saying that there was a great selection of beers and the best burgers in town. She was right! I wouldn't mind going back the next time I'm in town. I had a hamburger with cheddar cheese, crisp bacon, and avocado, on a sesame seed bun. (The waitress was very good about substituting cheddar for the Swiss that was on the menu.) It was huge -- I had to cut it in half even to get my mouth around it -- and delicious. There was coleslaw on the side, and the half-finished beer you see in the photo was Flat Tire Ale, a very good amber ale.

They also had special Sunday brunch items on the menu, e.g. creative variations on Eggs Benedict.
