Things to do in April w/ teen
by JoJosMom
Hi,
I am looking for things to do with my 14 yo daughter here in San Clemente. We don't have a car so need to find things w/in walking distance or by bus? Beach weather looks iffy for this week. Help! She's typical teen, not real interested in museums, etc. We are at south end near State Park so kind of isolated from things. Thanks for your help.

If you get tired of the beach activities you may want to consider taking the metrolink train http://www.metrolinktrains.com/
south from San Clemente to Oceanside, transfer to the Coaster train http://www.gonctd.com/coaster_schedules.htm and continue to downtown San Diego. There's a variety of things to do depending on you and your daughter's interests and budget.

Or use the Coaster and go north to do shopping in Laguna Beach.
Either way, the Coaster is probably your best bet to go someplace else.

The train going north from San Clement to Laguna Beach is NOT called the Coaster. It's called the MetroLink.
To go north as suggested you go to the San Clemente North Beach station it's a station on the Inland Empire-Orange County and Orange County Lines of the Metrolink commuter rail system covering areas around Los Angeles.
To go South to San Diego you follow the instructions I provided previously. That train system is called the Coaster serving San Diego County, where I live.

See little Casa Romantica
by marinarena
Known by many residents but often missed by most outsiders is a gem of a cultural center just walking distance from the shore.
Casa Romantica is a beautiful 2 1/2 acre home that is a setting for small town artistic expression and entertainment. It is one of southern California's lesser known institution for exploring local ,state and national history. Vieweing the old Spanish charm of the architecture here is enough reason to stop by.
In Early Summer, there is a special exhibition honoring the recovery, especially at the World Trade Center after the tragedy of 9/11.
Casa Romantica has the only west coast showing of the exhibit Recovery: The World Trade Center Recoverry Operation!
415 Avenida Granada, 92672
See website for all events at the center.
Relax and Have A Cup of Tea
by cnango about The Lavender Lounge Tea House
The Lavendar Lounge is a tea house that also has a nice selection of gift items. When you walk in the door you will notice the pleasant scent of the 65 custom blends of tea that is sold here. It is located on the corner of Del Mar and El Camino Real, upstairs above 31 Flavors in the Historical Spanish Building. The actual Room used to be the original office of Ole Hansen, the founder of the Spanish Village of San Clemente.
I ordered Kismet Tea and English Raisin Scones with Cherry Jelly and Clotted Cream. Kismet Tea was a Custom Lavender Lounge blend of Black and Green Tea with Camomile, Coconut and Lavender. It was served in a China Pot with a loose leaf tea strainer built in. I liked everything I ordered and sampled , including the tea of the day. That was my first visit to this wonderful tea house but I've been back many times since !
San Clemente tips

"Tips from a local (sort of)"
I've lived in San Clemente for about 5 years and love it. Unlike parts of Orange County - San Clemente is very laid back and unpretentious.
I hope my tips help for those who are visiting. I'll try to add more over time.
