Stay in hotel and need late night reliable food

by nathan2

I travel to San Diego quite often and stay in hotels. I have encountered this problem each time room service stops at night. After 11 hotels recommend outside companies for delivery service which are not reliable. We have not very good experience with broadway pizza who have menus in room. Is there any alternate place where we can still order food late night and yet we do not have to leave our room

Nathan, this is a difficult question to answer for a number of reasons. As we don't know what type of food you like our suggestions might be unexceptable to you also.

Another problem is not knowing the area you are staying in. Most of the restaurants that deliver are "chain-type" places and though the food may be adequate, it is not usually great. Kentucky Fried Chicken delivers and their food is pretty good most of the time, at least it's convenient.

The truth is that most restaurants that offer really good food do not offer delivery or are not open that late.

However, you might try "on-line." I don't know if they still do it, but some pretty good restaurants would deliver if you order on line. Usually it's lunch that's delivered, but some may offer dinner or late night deliveries.

I do have a suggestion you my not have thought of, sometimes people will order "food to-go" from a restaurant and then hire a taxi to pick it up and deliver it to them. This may be a bit more expensive, but if the restaurant is near your hotel, it might not cost too much for you.

I agree, we need to know more in order to answer your question. I would think that the chain pizza places (Dominoes, Pizza Hut) would be able to accommodate you. I am surprised that the hotels that you stay at won't offer up suggestions.

Perhaps this website will help?

The only other suggestion I have is that you be sure to pick up a free reader magazine (usually at 711s or Blockbuster videos or supermarkets) and there are tons of restaurant ads in there who you can call. Most restaurants deliver only within a 10 mile radius or so, so again, your location would help in getting more valid answers to your question.

On my recent visit to San Diego, I also tried Broadway Pizza because it was recommended by the night manager. Food was gross and I was ripped off by a delivery and credit card charge. On my investigation I found that the hotel employees get free food from the company, a reason to recommend them. I tried to order from Dominos next day which delivered to our hotel room. The food and service was dependable and there was no catch.

Go to Mission Bay, Belmont...

by KristinaLMF

Go to Mission Bay, Belmont Park rollercoaster, Sea Port Village, Down Town, Old Town, Prospect in La Jolla (the greatest shopping ever), Sea World, SD Zoo My fondest memories are the four years I spent in college. The memories can go on forever from nights out in PB, Old Town, or Down Town, shopping sprees in La Jolla, and let's not forget studying on the beach. Some of the best times were spent at Aztec football games or should I say the tailgates before the games.

San Diego Zoo

by vigi

The zoo is very impressive. With 4,000 animal inhabitants, San Diego zoo rank top one among all zoos in the world. Besides familiar animals, we found seldom-seen creatures such as koalas, tree kangaroos, ant eater, white wolf, etc. It is also a botanical garden with more than 6,500 plant species. In fact, some of the plants are more exotic than the zoo's animals! This leopard here have been trained like a cat, so cute!

Getting a coffee in La Jolla

by racheljapi

The Living Room is a cafe house in the heart of downtown La Jolla. Not only does it serve great coffees, greater sandwiches (think big sandwich with lots of each type of topping), and amazing pastries, it also has comfortable seating inside and out. On the inside there are cozy little couches with cute little coffee tables, tables with mix and match chairs, and an at home feel. Outside is regular seating with separate smoking and non-smoking areas. This is a favorite of La Jolla locals for studying (if attending University) and for just hanging out.

It's located at the very end of Girard (beach end) on Prospect. Prospect is the main street in La Jolla for the cove and Girard is the main shopping street, go where they intersect and you'll be good. This place is right next to an English school so there are plenty of foreigners working there and hanging out there. It's a good mix of people.

Double vending machines

by matcrazy1

They often put not 1 but 2 trolley ticket vending machines on trolley stops/stations. What for?
As I noticed both machines have the same functions (they can consume your coins, your notes or your virtual money from a credit/debit card :-). Hmm... never mind - better to have 2 than just 1 :-)).
