It's Basically a night club

Had a great time here. Love the roof top bar and pool which is worth staying here alone. Remember though that this hotel is geared 100% towards partying and going to the club on the roof. In fact, from every room in this place you will be hearing thumping music until 2:00. That just comes with the territory.

SIMPLY:

IF YOU WANT TO SLEEP, DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.

IF YOU WANT TO PARTY, DO STAY AT THIS HOTEL.

There are several restaurants and bars, the decor is very modern and minimal, which I happen to like very much. There is a pretty good wine bar with wine tasting machines. Food is pretty good and the service is friendly if unsophisticated. "What kind of cheese is in the cheese plate? I don't know what this is" AH well.

One other quibble is that the second room I had (I changed rooms) did not have anywhere to stow a roll away case. Meaning literally no closet space.

Unique Quality: The best thing about the Andaz is the roof top bar which is the focal point of this place. People stay here because they want to party and enjoy the club like scene. It is very loud and raucous until 2:00 a.m so if you're wanting to sleep this is not the spot. If you're looking to party, then you'll enjoy it. One nice thing is that a number of items in the mini bar - soda, juice, water, and tonic are free.

A Night in the Lap of Luxury

The Ivy Hotel is hands down one of the most incredible hotel experiences I have had. The staff is attentive and kind. The hotel is gorgeous and designed with a lovely modern sensibility. The staff goes out of their way to make your stay luxurious, right down to providing every room with a butler and making arrangements ahead of time to your liking to make your stay extra special. Does your husband need a larger bathrobe or slippers? No problem, they will take care of it. Would you like champagne arrival? They will have that waiting for you no charge. Would you like you dress pressed for your evening out? Again, they will do it for you no charge. The rooms are beautiful, with plush bedding, a gorgeous bathtub that comes with all the soaks and bath gels you could want, and an ipod dock so you can supply your own soundtrack to your evening.

Unique Quality: The Ivy has a great restaurant and nightlife scene. What is so unique about this hotel is that you can check in, stay there for days and not need to leave to have a great vacation. The restaurant, the Quarter Kitchen, is as delicious as it is hip and elegant. The skytop bar is a great scene, both for mingling and dancing, often complete with dancers that swallow fire! The dance club below is straight from Hollywood, with several dance floors and different types of music.

One thing to be wary of is the noise level. If you are looking to relax at night, the hotel may be a little loud for you at night during the weekend as the night scene really heats up and attracts a large crowd. Make sure to ask the front desk to provide you a guest room on the quiter floors.

More about Andaz San Diego

Partying over the Marina

by Dundooni about Sky Top Bar at the Ivy Hotel

The Ivy Hotel has stepped up as the new place to be and be seen in San Diego. The Sky Top Bar and dance club boasts 360 views of downtown San Diego, including Petco Park and the Marina. It attracts a hip crowd that ranges in age from just 21 to hip tourists in their 40s. There is both dancing (with Go Go dancers who range from Flame Swallowers to Contortionists) and lounging near the pool. A great time to go is at sunset. Have a cocktail and the calamari and enjoy the view. Then take a quick nap and rejoin the scene when the crowd starts pouring in. You won't regret it! Dress to impress. Women mostly wore dresses and men wore collared shirts and designer jeans. It gets a bit chilly, but there are heat lamps.
