Where to buy Timberland shoes in downtown San Diego?

by ellyse

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy Timberland shoes in downtown San Diego? I'm really keen on getting a pair, and it's expensive to buy them in China due to the high import taxes.

I don't drive, so hopefully the place in question is in town (taxi there, perhaps?) and/or easy to find.

Leaving in 8 hours, all responses gratefully received!

It looks like it's called The Shoe Shop

I'm not sure how the pricing of stores work in the US... is it more expensive to buy in this kind of store rather than at an outlet shop?

Re: Where to buy Timberland shoes in downtown San Diego?

Almost everything is more expensive at a normal store versus an outlet. Outlets often act as clearance centers for poorly-seliing or overstocked items, or "last year's models." Not always though - rents are often cheaper at outlet centers than malls (as they're usually outside of city centers) so sometimes a store will locate there for the lower overhead.

FYI - you may have run across a Timberland store listing at the Carlsbad outlet but it has closed - don't waste taxi $$ trying to get there. None of the other S.D. regional outlets have a store either.

I know that the Timberland outlet near us closed last year so it could be they're eliminating outlet locations.

You might find a Tmberland store in "Las Americas Plaza" located in San Ysidro. Which in any case is much closer and easier to get to than Carlsbad.

Take the Blue line trolley to the Mexican Border (end of the line) and about two blocks east of the station is this outlet mall. It is huge and you should be able to find what you are looking for.

Nope - I checked their website and they don't have a Timberland store.

Hi,

Another option is a store called Shiekh Shoes (http://www.shiekhshoes.com/store). There are a number of outlets in the San Diego area (National City, Chula Vista, Mission Valley, etc.).

I bought my Timberlands at Shoebuy.com and got them posted to my friend in the US when I was there. They were very cheap at this website and if you know your size it's the way to go.

I still buy my shoes from there and it is cheaper, even with shipping, than what they would cost in Oz.

Travel Tips for San Diego

Power Bars & Healthy Picnic Food

by LauraWest

Just a suggestion for an easy snack or a picnic in the park or at the beach - at 1211 Garnet Avenue, there's a store that is part of an American Chain. You can find then in other cities, too - Trader Joe's. Trader Joe's is a friendly little, unusual food store. They have healthier foods, beer and wine and household products at lower prices than you will find at most other stores! There are already prepared foods to grab & go, or to pop in your microwave. A number different foods from around the world will keep your taste buds happy, too. This is great place to go for special treats (sweets & chocolate from around the world) and even for vitamins or shampoo!

May I also suggest, for the traveler, their great selection of power bars? Just pop a few in your bag, for an energy fade emergency! Or a cheap snack?

I buy the bagged raw nuts all the time, at the one in Brentwood, near my house . The prices are very good, as is the quality.

The produce selection is small, but it is the only store in America that I have ever seen bananas sold by The Each ( usually 19 cents each). Much of the produce is Organically Grown.

The store is fun to shop in and the savings are a thrill, too! Store staff and friendly and wear colorful Hawaiian style shirts for their uniform. Kids get balloons & have their own tiny carts to "help" their adult shoppers.

San Diego is probably the best...

by Cestovatelka

San Diego is probably the best place to live at. I've been there quite a few months in 1988/9 and I can't say what is best. Everything is best. The sun, the sea, the restaurants, the people,.......
Go there and see for yourself !!!!!!!! Probably the most emotional thing is boarding a tram in the center of San Diego and going down to the mexican boarder, exit the tram, walk over the bridge and you are in a completely different world. This is fascinating.

Mission Beach

by vigi

Next morning, we had a short walk along Mission Beach before breakfast. Many people were doing jogging, bicycle, and rollerblading at this hour, and all of them looks good, fit & healthy! San Diego people (or maybe tourists who come to San Diego???) really looks good compared to other part in States.

SHELTER ISLANDS TUNAMAN'S MEMORIAL

by travelgourmet

Tunaman's Memorial was sculptured by Franco Vianello and dedicated in 1988 on the southwest end of Shelter Island, facing the bay. It is truly inspirational and emotional. San Diego was the Pacific headquarters for the tuna fleet that once was one of the main businesses on the bay. The sculpture is very life like with the three tuna fishermen pulling their fishing poles united on one hook with all their might to land the huge tuna. The sculpture is 21 feet high from the base to the tip of the poles.

The inscription on the marble slab on the street side of the sculpture reads"TUNAMAN'S MEMORIAL".....Honoring those that built an industry and remembering those that departed this harbor in the sun and did not return.-Anothony Mascarenhas" Below which are listed the "Founders, Pioneers, and those Lost at Sea". Very moving.

Traffic is heavy.

by Shadownlite

Be prepared for heavy heavy traffic so when going places put aside lots of time to get there during peak traffic hours. California is a 'driving culture' place and you have to have a car to go anywhere.
